01Network and SIM
It's unlocked for EE, O2, Vodafone, Three, Sky Mobile and any other UK network. Apple lists sub-6 GHz 5G and Gigabit LTE. Dual SIM works with one nano-SIM and one eSIM.
02Display
Apple specifies a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED at 2778 x 1284 (458 ppi), 800 nits typical and 1,200 nits HDR: the largest screen in the iPhone 12 range. It refreshes at 60Hz.
03Performance and storage
The A14 Bionic is shared across the whole iPhone 12 range, so the Max isn't faster than the 12 Pro. Up to 512GB of storage suits large photo libraries and long 4K clips, and there's no card slot.
04Cameras
Apple gave the Pro Max the strongest camera in the 12 range: a 12MP f/1.6 Wide, a 12MP Ultra Wide and a 12MP f/2.2 Telephoto with 2.5x optical zoom in and a 5x optical zoom range. LiDAR helps focus and Night mode portraits.
05Battery and charging
Apple rated it at up to 20 hours of video playback when new, the longest in the iPhone 12 range. A used battery won't match that, so every phone has at least 85% battery health at dispatch, on every grade. It charges by Lightning, MagSafe up to 15W or Qi up to 7.5W.
06Software updates
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is on Apple's iOS 27 list (14 September 2026) and received iOS 27.0.1 on 28 September 2026. Future security updates depend on Apple's policy; check the latest status before you buy. It doesn't support Apple Intelligence.

Is a refurbished iPhone 12 Pro Max worth buying in 2026?
Yes, if you want a big-screen Pro iPhone with 5G on the current iOS: it's a cheap iPhone 12 Pro Max compared with newer Pro Max models. The downsides are its 228g weight, Lightning rather than USB-C, a 60Hz screen and no Apple Intelligence. For 120Hz, compare the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Who it's for
Buy it if you watch a lot of video, read on your phone or want the 2.5x telephoto. A second hand iPhone 12 Pro Max from a private sale, or a used iPhone 12 Pro Max from a marketplace, won't come with our 12-month warranty or battery minimum.
