The best refurbished Android phone in the UK for most people right now is the Google Pixel 8 Pro. It has a 5x telephoto camera and a 6.7-inch display, and Google promises updates until October 2030. If camera reach matters most, choose the Galaxy S24 Ultra. On a tight budget, the Pixel 7a is the pick. For the longest software support, go for the Galaxy S25, and for a smaller phone, the Galaxy S24. Below you'll find the reasoning, the update dates, and the trade-offs between Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus and Nothing.
Best refurbished Android phones UK: quick picks
These picks come from the models we stock, judged on software support left, camera hardware, charging, size and price. Prices vary by grade and storage: Like New costs the most, then Excellent, then Very Good, and Fair is the cheapest. Check today's price on each product page.
| Need | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best overall | Google Pixel 8 Pro | Seven years of updates (to October 2030), 5x telephoto, 6.7-inch screen |
| Best camera | Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra | 200MP main camera plus 5x and 3x optical telephotos |
| Best value | Google Pixel 7a | Updates to May 2028 at our lowest Pixel price |
| Longest software support | Samsung Galaxy S25 | Seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates |
| Best small | Samsung Galaxy S24 | 6.2-inch screen, about 167g, seven-year update policy |
| Fastest charging | OnePlus 12 | 100W SUPERVOOC wired, 50W AIRVOOC wireless |
| Design-led mid-range | Nothing Phone (3a) | Three Android updates and six years of security updates |
What matters most when buying a used Android phone?
Software support is the deciding factor, because it sets how long a used Android phone stays safe to bank and shop on. After that, compare the camera hardware (especially telephoto lenses), battery condition, charging speed and size. Price matters, but a cheap phone with one year of updates left is poor value.
Unlike iPhones, Android phones come from manufacturers with very different update promises, and those promises changed sharply after 2023. Google moved to seven years from the Pixel 8. Samsung moved to seven years from the Galaxy S24. Older models from both brands have much shorter windows. So two phones that look similar on paper can have very different useful lives.
A sensible order of checks:
- Update end date: from the manufacturer's own page, never a forum post.
- Battery: our Like New, Excellent and Very Good grades come with at least 85% battery health measured at dispatch.
- Camera: a real optical telephoto makes the biggest everyday difference.
- Size and weight: a 6.8-inch phone at over 230g is a different thing to carry than a 6.2-inch phone at about 167g.
- Grade: a cosmetic choice. See our grades explained, which apply across our range.
How long will each refurbished Android phone get updates?
Google counts Pixel support from the phone's first US Google Store availability. That gives Pixel 7 updates to October 2027, Pixel 7a to May 2028 and Pixel 8 Pro to October 2030. Samsung promises seven years on the Galaxy S24 and S25 series, and up to six generations of OS upgrades on the Galaxy A56, A36 and A26.
| Model | Manufacturer's stated policy | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Google Pixel 7 | 5 years from first US Google Store availability (October 2022) | Updates to October 2027 |
| Google Pixel 7a | 5 years from first availability (May 2023) | Updates to May 2028 |
| Google Pixel 8 Pro | 7 years from first availability (October 2023) | Updates to October 2030 |
| Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra | 7 generations of OS upgrades, 7 years of security updates | Longest Samsung support we stock |
| Galaxy S24 / S24+ / S24 Ultra / S24 FE | 7 generations of OS upgrades, 7 years of security updates | Long runway at a lower price than S25 |
| Galaxy S23 / S23+ / S23 Ultra | 4 years of One UI upgrades, 5 years of security updates | Currently on Samsung's monthly security list |
| Galaxy A56 / A36 / A26 | Up to 6 generations of OS upgrades, 6 years of security updates | Strong support for the price |
| Nothing Phone (3a) | 3 Android updates, 6 years of security updates from market availability | Long security window, fewer OS upgrades |
| Nothing Phone (2) / (2a) | 3 years of Android updates, 4 years of security updates | Shorter window: check remaining time |

Best overall: Google Pixel 8 Pro
The Pixel 8 Pro is the best refurbished Android phone for most UK buyers. You get a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display, a 48MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom, IP68 dust and water resistance and up to 30W wired charging. Google commits to updates until October 2030, which is a lot of years for the money.
What stands out against similarly priced Samsungs is the update runway. The Galaxy S23 costs a little less but sits on a four-OS-upgrade, five-year security policy. The Pixel 8 Pro is on seven years. Google's spec sheet also lists a 5,050mAh typical battery and the Tensor G3 chip.
Two honest caveats. First, the Pixel 8 Pro doesn't show a battery health percentage in Settings; Google says that feature arrived on Pixel 8a and later. So rely on our 85% minimum at dispatch rather than an on-phone reading. Second, it's a large phone. If you want something pocketable, skip to the best small pick.
If you're weighing up Pixels specifically, our refurbished Google Pixel guide compares the 7, 7a and 8 Pro in detail, and Pixel 8 Pro deals covers storage and grade choices.

Best camera: Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
For camera versatility the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the strongest refurbished Android we stock short of the newer S25 Ultra. It pairs a 200MP main camera with two optical telephotos (50MP at 5x and 10MP at 3x) plus a 12MP ultra-wide. Samsung gives it seven years of security updates. Check today's price on the product page.
Two telephotos matter more than megapixels. They give you clean optical framing at 3x for portraits and 5x for sport, gigs and wildlife, where single-telephoto phones have to crop. The trade-off is size: Samsung lists the S24 Ultra at 6.8 inches and about 232g.
Two alternatives:
- Galaxy S23 Ultra: a 200MP main camera with 3x and 10x optical telephotos, a longer reach than the S24 Ultra's 5x. Its support policy is shorter (four OS upgrades, five years of security), but it's still on Samsung's monthly security list.
- Galaxy S25 Ultra: Samsung upgraded the ultra-wide to 50MP and lists a 6.9-inch display, with seven years of updates.
We compare these in depth in S23 Ultra vs S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra vs S24 Ultra.

Best value: Google Pixel 7a
The Pixel 7a is the best-value refurbished Android in our range. It costs much the same as the Pixel 7 but gets updates for seven months longer, to May 2028 against October 2027, because it launched later. If you want the cheapest sensible Android with a Google camera and a couple of years of updates, start here.
That timing quirk is worth spelling out. At a similar price, the newer phone usually gives you more supported life. Unless you specifically prefer the Pixel 7's design, the 7a is the better buy on support alone.
If you'd rather pay more for a much longer runway, the Galaxy A56 5G carries Samsung's policy of up to six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates. That makes it a stronger long-term value pick than any older flagship at the same price. Our Galaxy A series guide covers the A16 to A56.

Best for long software support: Samsung Galaxy S25
The Galaxy S25 gets seven generations of Android and One UI upgrades and seven years of security updates, the longest runway of any Android we stock. Check today's price on the product page. If you keep phones until they stop updating, the extra cost spreads across more years than any older model can offer.
Samsung's spec sheet lists the S25 at 6.2 inches and 162g, so it doubles as an excellent compact phone. The Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Edge share the S25 family's place on Samsung's monthly security update list.
For a lower outlay with the same seven-year policy, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 FE both qualify. Samsung counts support from launch, so the S24 family is a year further into its window than the S25. See our Galaxy S25 series and Galaxy S24 series pages for model-by-model detail.
Best small Android phone: Samsung Galaxy S24
The Galaxy S24 is the best small refurbished Android for most people. Samsung lists it at 6.2 inches and about 167g, with the same seven-year update policy as the S25. It costs less than an S25 for a phone of near-identical size, with one fewer year of support remaining.
Small Android phones are rare. Most of the range now sits at 6.7 inches or more, including the Pixel 8 Pro, OnePlus 12 and 13 and Nothing Phone (2) and (2a). Your realistic compact choices are:
- Galaxy S23: 6.1 inches, 168g. The cheapest compact flagship, on a shorter policy.
- Galaxy S24: 6.2 inches, about 167g, seven-year policy.
- Galaxy S25: 6.2 inches, 162g, the longest runway.
Best for fast charging: OnePlus 12
The OnePlus 12 is the pick if charging speed matters. OnePlus UK lists 100W SUPERVOOC wired and 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging, a 5,400mAh battery and a 6.82-inch QHD+ display. The OnePlus 13 keeps the same charging figures with a 6,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 8 Elite.
Those charging figures depend on a compatible OnePlus charger, so check the box contents on the product page if fast charging is your reason for buying. The cheaper OnePlus R models are worth a look too:
- OnePlus 12R: 5,500mAh and 100W SUPERVOOC. OnePlus says the battery keeps over 80% capacity after 1,600 charge cycles in its testing scenario, which it equates to about four years of daily charging.
- OnePlus 13R: 6,000mAh, 80W SUPERVOOC, and a telephoto camera with 2x zoom.
Our OnePlus 12, 12R, 13 and 13R guide covers the full line-up.
Best design-led mid-range: Nothing Phone (3a)
Choose the Nothing Phone (3a) if you want a distinctive design and a clean, light take on Android with a long security window. Nothing says the Phone (3a) series gets three Android updates and six years of security updates, counted from first market availability.
The older Nothing models are cheaper but shorter-lived. Nothing's own pages give the Phone (2) and Phone (2a) three years of Android updates and four years of security updates. The Phone (2) has wireless charging (15W) and the Phone (2a) doesn't. The flagship Nothing Phone (3) sits at the top of the range; check its product page for today's price. See our refurbished Nothing Phone guide to compare all four.
Samsung vs Google Pixel vs OnePlus vs Nothing: which brand suits you?
Choose Samsung for the widest range of sizes and prices and the strongest zoom cameras. Choose Google Pixel for clean software and long updates on the 8 Pro at a low refurbished price. OnePlus suits you if charging speed and big batteries come first. Nothing is for distinctive design and a minimal interface.

Which refurbished Android phones should you think twice about?
Be cautious with models that have dropped off, or are close to dropping off, their maker's security update schedule. On Samsung's current scope page, the Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S20 family and S10 family no longer appear on the monthly or quarterly lists. The Galaxy S22 family and S21 FE are on quarterly updates.
These phones still work, and they can make sense as a backup handset or a child's first phone at a low price. For everyday banking and payments, though, a phone on a current update schedule is the safer choice. The same logic applies to the Pixel 7, which Google supports to October 2027. It's a fine buy if you plan to replace it within about a year, but the Pixel 7a at a similar price gives you longer.
Battery health on refurbished Android phones
Every Like New, Excellent and Very Good phone we sell has at least 85% battery health measured at dispatch. Our 12-month warranty covers manufacturing defects and functional faults but excludes battery defects and reduced capacity, so treat the dispatch figure as your baseline and check it on arrival.
How to check yourself:
- Samsung: Samsung UK's guidance is to open the Samsung Members app, tap Support, then Phone diagnostics. The battery result shows as Normal, Weak or Bad.
- Google Pixel: Google says battery health status shows on Pixel 8a and later. The Pixel 7, 7a and 8 Pro don't display it, so the dispatch figure is your reference.
