If you want a Samsung tablet with a SIM card slot, the choice at The Tech Gadgets comes down to two models: the Galaxy Tab A11 4G LTE 128GB from £151.99 and the Galaxy Tab A11+ 5G 128GB at £219.00 (checked 5 October 2026). Both take a nano-SIM from any UK network for mobile data, so the tablet gets online away from Wi-Fi without borrowing your phone's connection.
The A11 LTE suits commuters, travellers and families who want a compact 8.7-inch tablet that works wherever there's 4G. The A11+ 5G suits anyone who wants an 11-inch screen, 5G where your network offers it and faster 25W charging. The biggest limitation: treat both as mobile-data tablets, not phones. We can't confirm SIM voice calls or eSIM on these units, so plan on a physical nano-SIM and a data plan.
The A11 LTE button opens the Grey listing; the A11+ 5G listing offers Grey or Silver. Prices were checked on 5 October 2026 and can change.
Quick decision: which Samsung SIM tablet?
- Best for: people who use a tablet online most days away from home Wi-Fi. The Tab A11 LTE 128GB is the lowest-priced cellular model we recommend; the A11+ 5G 128GB is the pick if you want the bigger screen and 5G.
- Choose something else when: the tablet rarely leaves the house, your phone plan already covers hotspot use comfortably, or you need the tablet to make ordinary phone calls. A Wi-Fi model costs £10.00 to £47.01 less.
- Check before buying: that your network can supply a physical nano-SIM for a tablet, that its plan allows 5G if you're paying for the A11+ 5G, and that you're happy with Open Box (Activated) international stock.

Who actually needs a Samsung tablet with a SIM?
A SIM tablet earns its place when you regularly need the internet away from reliable Wi-Fi and don't want to run your phone's hotspot every time. That usually means daily commuters, people who work or travel on the move, caravan and campervan owners, families who want children's apps and video in the car, and households without fixed broadband.
Commuters and mobile workers
On a train or a coach, a cellular tablet connects as soon as you open the cover. There's no pairing with your phone, no hotspot draining its battery before you reach the office, and no dropped tether when the phone goes back in your pocket. The 11-inch A11+ is the better fit for documents, email and video meetings; the A11 LTE is easier to hold in one hand and slips into a small bag.
Caravans, campervans and holiday cottages
Site Wi-Fi is often slow or shared by everyone on the pitch. A tablet with its own SIM gives you a separate connection for streaming, weather and booking the next stop. Both models list 4G band 20 (800MHz), a lower-frequency band that UK networks use and that carries further than the higher bands, alongside bands 1, 3, 7, 8 and 28. Real coverage still depends on your network and where you park.
Children in the car
A cellular tablet lets children stream on long journeys, but it isn't the only way. Downloading films and shows over home Wi-Fi before you leave uses no mobile data at all, and for many journeys that's enough. If you do give a child a SIM tablet, set it up with Samsung Kids or a restricted profile first; our sibling guide to the best Samsung tablet for kids walks through those controls.
Homes without broadband
For one person who mainly browses, messages and watches the odd programme, a tablet on a generous data plan can be the main connection. It's a weaker answer for a whole family, for big game downloads or for working from home all day, where a home broadband or dedicated mobile broadband router makes more sense.
4G LTE or 5G: which Samsung SIM tablet should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy Tab A11 LTE if you mainly browse, stream, message and video call on the move; 4G handles that well where signal is good, and the A11 LTE costs £67.01 less. Choose the A11+ 5G if you're often in 5G areas, download large files away from Wi-Fi, or want the bigger screen and faster chip anyway.
The price gap is easy to show. The A11+ 5G 128GB at £219.00 minus the A11 LTE 128GB at £151.99 is £67.01. That difference buys more than 5G. You also get the 11-inch 1920 x 1200 screen, quad speakers, a MediaTek processor Samsung rates 18% faster than the previous A9+, 25W charging and Samsung DeX desktop mode. If you'd choose the A11+ for those reasons anyway, the 5G itself adds £47.01 over the A11+ Wi-Fi 128GB (£219.00 − £171.99 = £47.01).
If you only want the cheaper tablet with mobile data, 5G on its own rarely justifies £67.01. A Samsung 5G tablet helps most in busy places where 4G is congested and when you download big files on the go. Whether 5G works on your tablet SIM also depends on your network and plan, so check that before you pay extra for it. Away from 5G coverage, the A11+ simply uses 4G.
Will the international models work on UK networks?
On paper, yes. Samsung lists identical 4G band sets for the Tab A11 LTE made for Europe (SM-X135F) and for the UAE (SM-X135G), including bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 and 28. The A11+ 5G is SM-X236B in both markets, with 5G bands n1, n3, n28 and n78 alongside the same 4G bands. Each tablet's connectivity is tested before dispatch.
You can check the full band lists on Samsung UK's own pages for the Tab A11 LTE specifications and the Tab A11+ 5G specifications. The model code on your tablet may differ from those UK pages depending on where it was made for, but the radio bands Samsung lists match.
Can a Samsung tablet with a SIM card make phone calls?
Treat these tablets as mobile-data devices, not phones. None of our listings claims SIM voice calls, and Samsung's user guides describe calling on these tablets through “Call & text on other devices”, which routes calls via a Galaxy phone signed in to the same Samsung account. Over mobile data you can still use WhatsApp, Google Meet, Teams or Zoom.
That is the honest position for international units. Calling over a tablet SIM depends on the tablet's software and on your network, and we haven't been able to confirm it for these models, so we don't sell them as call-capable. In practice most people who buy a Samsung tablet with cellular data want it for the internet, and app-based calls cover video chats with family and work meetings. If you need a tablet that rings on its own phone number, ask the team before ordering, and don't buy either model on the assumption that it will.
Does the Galaxy Tab A11 or A11+ support eSIM?
Plan on a physical nano-SIM. Samsung's UK spec sheets list both cellular models as single-SIM, with one tray that holds the SIM and a microSD card, and we haven't been able to confirm eSIM support from Samsung. If your network offers tablet data plans as eSIM by default, check it can send a physical SIM before you order.
The shared tray has an upside. Samsung lists the slot as SIM plus microSD, so you can run mobile data and a memory card of up to 2TB at the same time, which suits anyone downloading films for a journey. The ejector pin is in the box.
What kind of SIM plan do you need for a tablet?
A data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to connect a tablet. Look for a SIM-only data plan rather than a phone bundle: a rolling monthly plan if your use varies, a longer plan if it's steady, or an extra data SIM linked to your phone account if your network offers one. Choose the allowance from how you'll actually use the tablet.
Video is what eats data. Browsing, email, messaging and maps use relatively little; streaming films and video calls use far more, and higher video quality uses more again. Three habits keep costs down:
- Download films, shows and playlists over Wi-Fi before you travel.
- Set a data warning and limit in Settings, Connections, Data usage, so a long streaming session can't run through your allowance unnoticed.
- Lower the streaming quality in your video apps when you're on mobile data.
Taking the tablet abroad? Samsung lists a wide spread of 4G bands for both models, but your plan's roaming terms decide what it costs, so check them before you go.
Phone hotspot or SIM tablet: which is better?
If the tablet only goes online away from home now and then, your phone's hotspot is cheaper: no second SIM, and a Wi-Fi model costs £10.00 to £47.01 less. A SIM tablet wins when you use it online most days, when the tablet travels without your phone (a child in the back seat, say), or when you need your phone's battery to last the day.
This side-by-side sets out the trade-off between tethering and a Samsung SIM tablet.
| Phone hotspot + Wi-Fi tablet | SIM tablet (A11 LTE or A11+ 5G) | |
|---|---|---|
| Extra cost of the tablet | None | £10.00 more (A11 128GB) or £47.01 more (A11+ 128GB) |
| Ongoing cost | Uses your phone plan's data, if it allows tethering | A second, data-only SIM |
| Phone battery | Drains faster while sharing | Unaffected |
| Works without your phone nearby | No | Yes |
| Set-up each time | Turn on hotspot, connect | Always connected |
One thing a Wi-Fi tablet can still do on its own is navigate. Samsung lists GPS, Galileo, Glonass, BeiDou and QZSS on the Wi-Fi models too, so with maps downloaded in advance a Wi-Fi tablet can show your position offline. Live traffic, search and streaming still need data.
How much more does a cellular Samsung tablet cost?
At The Tech Gadgets, adding mobile data costs £10.00 on the Tab A11 128GB, £47.01 on the A11+ 128GB and £86.26 on the A11+ 256GB. All prices are for Open Box (Activated) international units, checked on 5 October 2026, comparing the cheapest listing of each version.
| Model and storage | Wi-Fi only | With SIM slot | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tab A11 8.7-inch 128GB | £141.99 (Silver) | £151.99 LTE (Grey) | £151.99 − £141.99 = £10.00 |
| Tab A11+ 11-inch 128GB | £171.99 (Silver) | £219.00 5G | £219.00 − £171.99 = £47.01 |
| Tab A11+ 11-inch 256GB | £253.99 (Grey) | £340.25 5G (Grey) | £340.25 − £253.99 = £86.26 |
The A11 is where cellular is the easiest decision. For £10.00 over the Wi-Fi Tab A11 128GB, the Galaxy Tab A11 4G LTE in Grey keeps your options open even if you only use mobile data on holiday. If you prefer Silver, the Silver Tab A11 LTE listing is £156.99, £5.00 more (£156.99 − £151.99 = £5.00).
On the larger model, the Galaxy Tab A11+ 5G 128GB is the better-value 5G tablet. Doubling to 256GB with the Tab A11+ 5G 256GB in Grey adds £121.25 (£340.25 − £219.00 = £121.25) and lifts RAM from 6GB to 8GB. Since both take a microSD card of up to 2TB for films and photos, most people are better served by the 128GB and a card; pay for 256GB if you install a lot of large games or apps, which can't live on the card. The Silver 256GB 5G is £349.00, £8.75 more than Grey.
The A11 LTE and 256GB 5G buttons open Grey listings; the 128GB 5G listing offers Grey or Silver. Prices were checked on 5 October 2026 and can change.

Who should not buy a cellular model?
Skip the SIM slot if the tablet will spend nearly all its life on home or school Wi-Fi, as many children's tablets do. Skip it if your phone plan already includes generous data with hotspot use and you're happy to tether. And don't buy either model expecting it to replace your phone for calls, or expecting to use an eSIM, because we can't confirm either.
For a Wi-Fi tablet, the Tab A11 128GB at £141.99 and the A11+ 128GB at £171.99 are the sensible starting points, and our Galaxy Tab A11 vs A11+ guide helps with the size decision. You can also compare every model on our Galaxy Tab listings.
Open Box (Activated) and international stock: what to check on arrival
Every Galaxy Tab A11 and A11+ we sell is Open Box (Activated), international stock. The box has been opened and the tablet switched on and activated once, then factory reset, signed out of all accounts and checked before it's packed back in its Samsung box. It isn't sold as sealed new, and the listings describe it as cosmetically as-new.
International stock means it was made for sale in the UAE or Europe. Model code and box printing may differ from UK units, and Samsung doesn't include a plug. Samsung UK may not carry out manufacturer warranty repairs on non-UK units, so your cover is The Tech Gadgets' 12-month warranty, starting on delivery and covering faults that develop in normal use (not accidental or liquid damage). The warranty policy lists battery defects and reduced capacity as exclusions, but your Consumer Rights Act 30-day right to reject still applies. Change-of-mind returns are accepted within 30 days if unused and complete (you pay return postage), plus your 14-day right to cancel. Our explainer on international stock covers the background, and the sibling guide asks whether an open box Galaxy Tab is worth buying.
Arrival checklist for a SIM tablet
- Set-up starts at the welcome screen and asks for your own Google account, with no previous owner's lock.
- Settings, About tablet shows the model you ordered. An A11 LTE may show SM-X135F or SM-X135G; an A11+ 5G shows SM-X236B.
- Insert your nano-SIM with the tablet off, then check that mobile data connects. Most UK SIMs set themselves up; if not, your network can give you its access point (APN) settings.
- On the A11+ 5G, check whether a 5G symbol appears where your network has 5G coverage and your plan includes it.
- Run Software update to install the latest quarterly security patch.
- Test the screen, speakers, cameras and charging with your own USB-C charger (15W for the A11, up to 25W for the A11+), and keep the box until you're happy.
Orders placed by 3pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day from Manchester, and standard delivery is free because every tablet here costs more than £50. Samsung's specs describe a new tablet, so don't rely on any splash resistance from an Open Box unit; liquid damage isn't covered by the warranty.
Open Box (Activated), international stock, with a 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets.
Samsung tablet with SIM card: buyer FAQ
Can I put any UK SIM card in a Samsung tablet?
Yes, for mobile data. Both cellular models take a nano-SIM from any UK network, and Samsung lists the main 4G bands UK networks use, including band 20 (800MHz), plus 5G bands n1, n3, n28 and n78 on the A11+ 5G. A data-only SIM is usually the cheapest choice. Check your network can supply a physical SIM, because we can't confirm eSIM on these tablets.
Does the Galaxy Tab A11 have 5G?
No. The 8.7-inch Galaxy Tab A11 comes as Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi plus 4G LTE; there is no 5G version. For a Samsung 5G tablet in this range you need the 11-inch Tab A11+ 5G, from £219.00 for 128GB (checked 5 October 2026). Away from 5G coverage it uses 4G, just like the A11 LTE.
Can I share the tablet's mobile data with a laptop?
Android includes Mobile Hotspot and USB tethering, and Vodafone UK's device guide for the Tab A11 lists Wi-Fi hotspot support. Whether you can share data depends on your SIM plan, since some data plans restrict tethering. Check the plan's terms before you rely on the tablet as a hotspot for a laptop or a second device.
Will a 5G tablet use more data than a 4G one?
5G doesn't make a web page or a film any bigger. What changes is speed: on a fast connection, streaming apps may choose a higher quality and downloads finish sooner, so you can get through an allowance more quickly. Set a data limit in Settings and lower the streaming quality on mobile data if your plan is small.
Can I use a SIM and a microSD card at the same time?
Yes. Samsung lists the slot on both cellular models as SIM plus microSD, so one tray holds a nano-SIM and a memory card of up to 2TB together. That's useful for downloading films and music to the card at home and streaming only when you need to. Apps still install on the internal storage, so choose 128GB or more.
Can I use a Samsung SIM tablet abroad?
The hardware is broad: Samsung lists 4G bands used across Europe and beyond for both models, and the A11+ adds a wide spread of 5G bands. Cost is the real question. Roaming charges and inclusive allowances depend on your SIM plan, so check them before you travel, or download what you need over hotel or home Wi-Fi first.
Is a Wi-Fi model enough for maps and sat-nav?
Partly. Samsung lists GPS, Galileo, Glonass, BeiDou and QZSS on the Wi-Fi models as well as the cellular ones, so a Wi-Fi tablet can find its position without a SIM. You'll need maps downloaded in advance, though, and live traffic, search and route changes need a data connection, from a SIM or your phone's hotspot.
Final verdict: the best Samsung tablet with a SIM card
For most people who want a Samsung tablet with a SIM card, the Galaxy Tab A11 4G LTE 128GB at £151.99 is the sensible buy. It costs only £10.00 more than the Wi-Fi version, takes a nano-SIM from any UK network and has security updates listed by Samsung UK until 30 September 2032 (prices checked 5 October 2026).
Choose the Galaxy Tab A11+ 5G 128GB at £219.00 instead when you want the 11-inch screen, quad speakers, 25W charging and 5G where your network supports it; that's £67.01 more. Step up to the 256GB 5G at £340.25 only if you install lots of large apps. Who should not buy a cellular model? Anyone whose tablet stays on Wi-Fi, anyone happy to tether from a phone, and anyone who needs SIM voice calls or eSIM. For more on the larger tablet, read our Galaxy Tab A11+ buying guide.
