Open Box Samsung Galaxy Tab A11: Is It Worth Buying? (UK)

Open Box (Activated) means opened, set up once, reset and checked. Here's what that and "international stock" mean for a Galaxy Tab A11 or A11+, how our prices compare with Samsung UK's, and what to check on arrival.

For most buyers, yes: an open box Samsung tablet from The Tech Gadgets is a sound buy, as long as you understand what you're getting. Every Galaxy Tab A11 and Tab A11+ we sell is Open Box (Activated), international stock. The box has been opened and the tablet set up and activated once, then factory reset, checked and signed out of all accounts, and it comes with a 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets.

The value is strongest on the 11-inch Tab A11+: the Wi-Fi 128GB is from £171.99 (checked 5 October 2026), against £289.00 for a new one on Samsung UK's website the same day. The limitations are honest ones. Samsung UK may not carry out manufacturer warranty repairs on international units, and not every listing beats Samsung's own price: Samsung UK was selling the Tab A11 Wi-Fi 64GB new for £119.00, less than our £137.00.

Quick decision: is an open box Galaxy Tab right for you?

  • Best for: buyers who want a Samsung tablet that is effectively unused for well under Samsung UK's price, especially the Tab A11+, and who are happy for the retailer's warranty to be their main cover.
  • Choose something else when: you want a sealed box (for example, as a gift), you want Samsung UK's own manufacturer warranty and repairs, or Samsung UK is running a promotion that makes new cheaper, as it was on the Tab A11 Wi-Fi 64GB.
  • Check before buying: the condition in the listing title, whether you need Wi-Fi only or mobile data, and how much storage you'll use. Then run the arrival checklist below in your first week.

What does Open Box (Activated) mean on a Samsung tablet?

It means the box has been opened and the tablet switched on, set up and activated once, so it isn't sealed and isn't sold as brand new. Before dispatch we factory reset it, remove every Google and Samsung account, test the screen, cameras, speakers, charging and connectivity, and pack it back in its Samsung box. You set it up as your own, as you would a new tablet.

The listings describe the tablets as cosmetically in as-new condition, and apart from that single activation they are unused. That is the key difference from a used or refurbished tablet: nobody has lived with it or carried it around day to day.

The word “Activated” is there for honesty, and it has one practical effect worth understanding. Some manufacturer warranties count from first activation rather than from the day you buy. We cover what that means for Samsung's warranty further down, and why The Tech Gadgets' own 12-month warranty, which starts on delivery, is the cover to rely on.

In the box you get the tablet, a USB-C cable, an ejector tool for the SIM and microSD tray, and Samsung's quick start guide. There is no plug, because Samsung doesn't include one with either model.

Open box vs sealed new vs refurbished: what's the difference?

Sealed new has never been opened. Open box has been opened and, here, activated once, but is otherwise unused. Refurbished means the device has been used by a previous owner, then tested and graded by cosmetic condition. If you searched for refurbished Samsung tablets, our Galaxy Tab A11 and A11+ listings are open box rather than refurbished, so they are described as as-new rather than graded for wear.

This table sets out how the three conditions compare at The Tech Gadgets.

Sealed new Open Box (Activated) Refurbished (graded)
Previous use None Set up and activated once Used by a previous owner
Cosmetic condition New Described as as-new Like New, Excellent or Very Good
Packaging Factory sealed Samsung box, opened Protective packaging
Warranty from The Tech Gadgets 12 months 12 months 12 months

Our refurbished grades are defined on the page about how we test and grade refurbished devices. Like New shows no visible marks, Excellent has light signs of use that are hard to spot at arm's length, and Very Good has visible marks on the body with the screen in good shape. The grades apply to our refurbished phones and iPads; they aren't used for open box Galaxy Tabs. Our guide to international stock versus refurbished explains how those two terms differ across the store.

What does international stock mean for a Galaxy Tab?

It means the tablet was made for sale in the UAE or Europe rather than supplied by Samsung UK. It runs the same Android and One UI software and works in the UK. The differences are the model code, box printing that may be in another language, and the fact that Samsung UK may not carry out manufacturer warranty repairs, so The Tech Gadgets' warranty is your cover.

Which model code will my tablet show?

Samsung gives the same tablet a slightly different code depending on the market it was made for. The Tab A11 Wi-Fi and LTE codes differ between UK or EU and UAE stock, while the Tab A11+ uses the same codes in both. You'll find yours printed on the box and in Settings, About tablet.

Model UK and EU code UAE code
Galaxy Tab A11 Wi-Fi SM-X130 SM-X133
Galaxy Tab A11 4G LTE SM-X135F SM-X135G
Galaxy Tab A11+ Wi-Fi SM-X230 SM-X230
Galaxy Tab A11+ 5G SM-X236B SM-X236B

Samsung's European user guide covers SM-X130, SM-X133, SM-X135F and SM-X135G in a single manual, which confirms they are one product family. A Tab A11 from UAE stock will show SM-X133 or SM-X135G; that is expected, not a fault.

How does Samsung's own warranty treat international units?

Samsung UK gives UK-market tablets its own manufacturer warranty. Its UK warranty page says that from 1 February 2026, tablets placed on the market by Samsung companies outside the UK and brought in by third parties have a maximum warranty term of one year, and that non-European devices aren't covered by its European warranty policy.

Samsung also runs a separate international warranty for selected devices. It covers repair only, and it may run from first activation. On an Activated tablet, part of any such period may already have started before you bought it, and whether a particular UAE unit qualifies isn't something we can confirm. So treat Samsung's cover as uncertain, and rely on the 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets plus your Consumer Rights Act rights.

Will the LTE and 5G models work on UK networks?

On paper, yes. Samsung lists identical band lists for the UK and UAE codes. The Tab A11 LTE's 4G bands include 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 and 28, which include the 800MHz band 20 used across the UK. The Tab A11+ 5G adds 5G bands n1, n3, n28 and n78. Whether you get 5G on a tablet SIM depends on your network and plan.

Treat both as mobile data tablets: the listings advertise data, not ordinary voice calls. Our guide to choosing a Samsung tablet with a SIM card explains data-only SIMs and who needs one.

What you get from The Tech Gadgets

Every open box Galaxy Tab comes with a 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets, starting on delivery, covering faults that develop in normal use (not accidental or liquid damage). Because the tablet is international stock, you deal with us directly if anything goes wrong rather than Samsung UK. Our refund and warranty policy sets out the detail.

The warranty policy lists battery defects and reduced capacity as exclusions, so check the battery when the tablet arrives. A faulty battery within 30 days is still covered by your Consumer Rights Act right to reject. Our article on warranty cover and your consumer rights walks through the timeline in detail.

You also get change-of-mind returns within 30 days if unused and complete (you pay return postage), plus your 14-day right to cancel. Orders placed by 3pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day from Manchester. Standard delivery takes 1–3 working days and is free on orders of £50 or more, which covers every Galaxy Tab we sell; Special Delivery (next working day) is £9.99. Our delivery and dispatch policy covers weekends and bank holidays.

Is an open box Galaxy Tab cheaper than buying new from Samsung UK?

Usually, but not always. On 5 October 2026 our open box Tab A11+ Wi-Fi 128GB was £117.01 cheaper than Samsung UK's new price, and the A11+ 5G 128GB was £120.00 cheaper. The Tab A11 Wi-Fi 64GB was the exception: Samsung UK had it on offer at £119.00, which was £18.00 less than our £137.00. Check both before you buy.

Each line below compares the same model, connectivity and storage. Samsung UK prices are the prices shown on samsung.com/uk on 5 October 2026, and Samsung's promotions change often.

Model Samsung UK, new The Tech Gadgets, open box Difference
Galaxy Tab A11+ Wi-Fi 128GB £289.00 £171.99 £289.00 − £171.99 = £117.01 less with us
Galaxy Tab A11+ 5G 128GB £339.00 £219.00 £339.00 − £219.00 = £120.00 less with us
Galaxy Tab A11 4G LTE 128GB £199.00 (offer; shown RRP £289.00) £151.99 £199.00 − £151.99 = £47.01 less with us
Galaxy Tab A11 Wi-Fi 64GB £119.00 (offer; shown RRP £169.00) £137.00 £137.00 − £119.00 = £18.00 less at Samsung UK

The A11+ is where open box makes the most sense: the saving is large, and the extra screen, speakers and charging speed make it the better long-term tablet. The open box Galaxy Tab A11 4G LTE 128GB in Grey also undercuts Samsung's offer price.

For the smaller Wi-Fi Tab A11, look at storage rather than the 64GB headline. Our 128GB Wi-Fi model at £141.99 costs £4.99 more than our 64GB (£141.99 − £137.00) and doubles both storage and memory. Against Samsung UK's 64GB offer it is £22.99 more (£141.99 − £119.00), for twice the storage and twice the RAM. Samsung UK's page for the 128GB Wi-Fi model showed no price when we checked. If 64GB is really enough for you, and you want sealed new, Samsung's offer was the cheaper route on the day.

What should you check when an open box Galaxy Tab arrives?

Check that it starts at the welcome screen with no previous account attached, then confirm the model code, install the latest software update, and test the screen, sound, cameras, charging and (on LTE or 5G models) mobile data. Do it in the first few days, so anything wrong is caught well inside your 30-day right to reject.

  1. Box and contents. Samsung box, USB-C cable, ejector tool and quick start guide. Printing in another language is normal for international stock.
  2. Accounts and FRP. Factory Reset Protection (FRP) asks for the previous Google account after a reset if one is still linked. Yours should go straight to set-up. If it asks for an account that isn't yours, stop and contact us.
  3. Your accounts only. After set-up, Settings, Accounts and backup, Manage accounts should list only the Google and Samsung accounts you added.
  4. Model code. Settings, About tablet. Compare it with the model code table above.
  5. Software update. Settings, Software update, Download and install. Repeat until it says the software is up to date.
  6. Screen. View plain white and plain black images to spot dead pixels or marks, and swipe across every edge to check touch.
  7. Battery and charging. Charge with a USB-C charger you own and watch that it charges steadily and holds charge normally over the first couple of days.
  8. Sound, cameras and ports. Play a video through the speakers and through wired headphones, and open both cameras.
  9. Connections. Join your Wi-Fi and pair a Bluetooth device. On LTE or 5G models, insert a nano-SIM and check mobile data works.

If you need to send it back, back up anything you want to keep, sign out of your Google and Samsung accounts, and factory reset the tablet first.

Who should buy a new Samsung tablet instead?

  • Gift buyers who want a sealed box. An open box tablet has been opened and activated, however clean it is.
  • Anyone who wants Samsung UK's manufacturer warranty. If being able to use Samsung UK's own repair service matters to you, buy a UK-market unit new.
  • Tab A11 Wi-Fi 64GB buyers when Samsung has an offer on. On 5 October 2026 Samsung UK's £119.00 beat our £137.00.
  • People who need a pen. Neither the Tab A11 nor the A11+ supports the S Pen; that needs a Galaxy Tab S model.
  • Anyone relying on eSIM or native calling from a tablet. We don't advertise either on these models, so confirm with Samsung before buying any A11-series tablet for that purpose.

Open box Samsung tablet FAQ

Is an open box Galaxy Tab the same as a refurbished one?

No. A refurbished tablet has had a previous owner and is graded by how much wear it shows. Our open box Galaxy Tab A11 and A11+ units have been set up and activated once, then reset and checked, and the listings describe them as cosmetically as-new. They carry the same 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets as our refurbished devices, but you're starting with a tablet that hasn't been lived with.

Could an open box Samsung tablet be locked to someone else's account?

It shouldn't be. Before dispatch we remove every Google and Samsung account and factory reset the tablet, which clears Factory Reset Protection. On first start you should go straight into set-up with your own accounts. If the tablet ever asks for a previous owner's Google account or Samsung account, don't try to bypass it; contact us and we'll put it right under your Consumer Rights Act rights.

Will an international Galaxy Tab get the same software updates?

It runs the same Android and One UI software as a UK unit. Samsung UK lists security updates for the Tab A11 until 30 September 2032 and the Tab A11+ until 30 November 2032, delivered quarterly, and the international codes belong to the same product families. After set-up, run Software update to install anything released since the tablet was packed.

Does an open box Galaxy Tab come with a charger?

No, and neither does a new one. Samsung UK states that the travel adapter isn't included with either model. You get a USB-C cable, so any USB-C charger you already own will work. The Tab A11 charges at up to 15W and the Tab A11+ at up to 25W, so use a charger of at least that rating if you want full speed.

Is an open box Galaxy Tab A11 water resistant?

Samsung Australia lists IP42 for the Tab A11 and IP52 for the Tab A11+, but Samsung UK's specification pages don't. These ratings describe limited protection against small particles and dripping water when a tablet is new; they don't make it splash-proof in daily use. Don't rely on them with an open box unit, and remember that liquid damage isn't covered by the warranty.

Can I return an open box tablet if I change my mind?

Yes, within limits. You have 14 days from the day after delivery to cancel an online order without a reason, even after opening the box, although a deduction may apply if it has been handled more than needed to inspect it. Change-of-mind returns run to 30 days if the tablet is unused and complete. You pay return postage for a change of mind; faulty items are different and come back free.

Which open box Galaxy Tab is the best value?

On 5 October 2026 prices, the Galaxy Tab A11+ Wi-Fi 128GB at £171.99. It was £117.01 below Samsung UK's new price and is the better tablet for streaming, schoolwork and longevity. If you want something smaller and lighter, the Tab A11 Wi-Fi 128GB at £141.99 gives 8GB of RAM for only £4.99 more than our 64GB model. Our Galaxy Tab A11+ vs iPad comparison helps if you're also weighing up Apple.

Verdict: is an open box Samsung Galaxy Tab worth buying?

Yes, for most people, and the Tab A11+ most of all. An Open Box (Activated) Galaxy Tab from The Tech Gadgets has been set up once, reset, checked and signed out, comes in its Samsung box, and carries a 12-month warranty from us. On the A11+ that saves £117.01 at 128GB compared with Samsung UK's own price, which is a strong case for a tablet that is effectively unused.

Go in with eyes open. It is international stock, so Samsung UK may not repair it under manufacturer warranty, and the model code and box printing may differ from UK units. Samsung's own prices move with promotions, and on the day we checked, Samsung UK sold the Tab A11 Wi-Fi 64GB new for less than our open box unit.

Who should not buy open box: gift buyers who need a sealed box, anyone who wants Samsung UK's manufacturer warranty, and anyone who needs an S Pen. Everyone else can compare sizes and prices across our tablets in stock, including refurbished iPads.
