Refurbished Google Pixel UK: Pixel 7, 7a or 8 Pro, Which to Buy?

Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7a or Pixel 7? We compare each refurbished Google Pixel on price, Google updates left from October 2026 and cost per month of support, plus the checks to make when your phone arrives.

The best refurbished Google Pixel for most UK buyers is the Pixel 8 Pro. From £276.99 (checked 5 October 2026), it gets Google's Android and security updates until October 2030, and it is the only Pixel we list with a 5x telephoto camera. To spend less, the Pixel 7a from £195.99 is supported until May 2028. The Pixel 7 from £184.99 is the cheapest Google Pixel in our range, but its updates end in October 2027.

A refurbished Pixel suits anyone who wants clean Android and Google's camera software for well under the price of a new phone. The main limitation is age. All three are 2022 or 2023 models, and none of them shows a battery health reading in Settings, so the grade, the store's battery minimum and your own checks on arrival carry more weight than they would on a newer handset.

Which refurbished Google Pixel should you buy? The quick decision

  • Best for: the Pixel 8 Pro if you keep phones for three years or more, or want optical zoom; the Pixel 7a if you want a smaller phone with updates into 2028 for under £200; the Pixel 7 if you need a capable Pixel for about a year at the lowest price.
  • Choose something else when: your contacts all use iMessage and FaceTime, you want a stylus, or you won't buy a used phone without seeing a battery health figure on screen.
  • Check before buying: how many months of updates are left on the model you pick, whether 128GB is enough (none of these phones takes a memory card), and the grade description, because the grade covers cosmetic condition only.

How long will each refurbished Pixel get updates?

The Pixel 8 Pro gets Android and security updates until October 2030, about 48 months from 5 October 2026. The Pixel 7a is supported until May 2028, about 19 months away, and the Pixel 7 until October 2027, about 12 months away. Google counts support from the month each phone first went on sale on its US Google Store.

Google's Pixel update schedule gives Pixel 8 and later phones seven years of OS and security updates, and the Pixel 7 and 7a five years. Google's availability table dates the Pixel 7 to October 2022, the Pixel 7a to May 2023 and the Pixel 8 Pro to October 2023, which produces the end dates below.

This table divides the cheapest price by the months of support left, a fair way to compare a cheap phone near its end date with a dearer one.

Model First on sale (US Google Store) Google policy Updates until Months left from 5 Oct 2026 Cheapest price Cost per month of updates
Pixel 8 Pro 128GB, Very Good October 2023 7 years October 2030 48 £276.99 £5.77
Pixel 7a 128GB, Very Good May 2023 5 years May 2028 19 £195.99 £10.32
Pixel 7 128GB, Very Good October 2022 5 years October 2027 12 £184.99 £15.42

The Pixel 8 Pro costs the most upfront but the least per month of supported use: £276.99 ÷ 48 = £5.77, against £10.32 for the 7a and £15.42 for the Pixel 7. A Pixel doesn't stop working when updates end. It stops receiving security patches, which matters most if you bank, shop and keep work email on your phone, and app makers drop older Android versions over time.

What is the cheapest Google Pixel worth buying?

The cheapest Google Pixel we list is the Pixel 7 128GB in Very Good grade, from £184.99 (checked 5 October 2026). It is a sensible buy if you plan to replace it within about a year. For a phone you'll keep longer, the Pixel 7a 128GB Very Good costs £11.00 more and adds seven months of updates.

Here is the Google Pixel price maths, comparing like-for-like 128GB phones in Very Good grade:

  • Pixel 7a (£195.99) minus Pixel 7 (£184.99) = £11.00 for seven more months of updates, a smaller body and a 64MP main camera.
  • Pixel 8 Pro (£276.99) minus Pixel 7a (£195.99) = £81.00 for 29 more months of updates, the 5x telephoto and a 120Hz screen.
  • Pixel 8 Pro (£276.99) minus Pixel 7 (£184.99) = £92.00 for 36 more months of updates.

Grade changes the price more than many buyers expect. On the Pixel 8 Pro 128GB, Like New (£368.99) minus Very Good (£276.99) = £92.00. On the Pixel 7a, the gap is £236.99 minus £195.99 = £41.00, and on the Pixel 7 128GB it is £215.99 minus £184.99 = £31.00. That premium buys cleaner glass and metal only, because every grade has the same battery minimum and the same warranty. If you use a case, Very Good is usually the better value.

Each listing also shows a Fair option at the same price as Very Good. The grading page doesn't define Fair, so ask the team about its condition before ordering it.

Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7a or Pixel 7: who each one suits

Refurbished Pixel 8 Pro: the one to keep until 2030

The Pixel 8 Pro is the newest Pixel we list. Google specifies the Tensor G3 chip with 12GB of RAM and a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED screen running at 1–120Hz, with up to 2,400 nits peak brightness. The 48MP telephoto gives 5x optical zoom, which neither Pixel 7 model has, and the 10.5MP front camera has autofocus.

The trade-offs are size and weight. At 213g it is the heaviest of the three, and 128GB fills quickly if you film a lot of 4K video. Our guide to Pixel 8 Pro storage and grade deals works through 128GB, 256GB and 512GB in detail.

From £276.99 (checked 5 October 2026), 128GB in Very Good grade. Colours: Bay, Obsidian, Porcelain. Unlocked.

  • Google updates until October 2030
  • 5x optical zoom telephoto camera
  • At least 85% battery health at dispatch
  • 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets

Refurbished Pixel 7a: the compact value pick

The Pixel 7a is the smallest phone here, with a 6.1-inch screen, and Google lists it at 193.5g. It shares the Tensor G2 chip and 8GB of RAM with the Pixel 7, so everyday speed is similar, and its 64MP main camera has a higher pixel count than the Pixel 7's 50MP sensor. It has Qi wireless charging but isn't on Google's Battery Share list, so it can't top up earbuds from its back.

It comes only in 128GB and is rated IP67 rather than IP68. Updates run to May 2028. For a full spec-by-spec breakdown of the two Tensor G2 phones, read our Pixel 7a vs Pixel 7 comparison.

  • Compact 6.1-inch OLED screen
  • At least 85% battery health at dispatch

Refurbished Pixel 7: the cheapest way into a Pixel

The Pixel 7 has a 6.3-inch 90Hz OLED screen, a 50MP main camera with a 12MP ultrawide, fast wireless charging and Battery Share. Unlike the 7a, the refurbished Pixel 7 comes in 256GB, from £211.99 in Very Good grade, and it carries the IP68 rating when new.

Its weakness is the calendar. With about 12 months of updates left, it suits a stopgap phone, a first smartphone for a teenager you'll upgrade next year, or a spare. If you want three years of use, the extra £92.00 for a Pixel 8 Pro buys three more years of patches.

Is a second-hand Google Pixel a good deal in 2026?

A second-hand Google Pixel is a good deal when the price is low compared with the updates left and the seller stands behind it. A refurbished Pixel from a retailer arrives tested, reset and graded, with a warranty and returns. A private sale usually comes with none of that, which matters on batteries from 2022 and 2023.

“Second-hand” and “2nd hand” Google Pixel listings can mean two very different purchases. Buying from a trader gives you Consumer Rights Act protection, including the right to reject a faulty phone within 30 days. A private seller has far fewer obligations. Our explainer on your consumer rights when buying a refurbished phone sets out the timeline.

The other risk with used Google Pixel phones from a private sale is Factory Reset Protection: if the seller hasn't removed their Google account, you may not be able to finish set-up.

How to judge any Google Pixel deal

Run four checks on any Pixel deal, including Black Friday offers. Divide the price by the months of updates left. Check that the grade is defined in writing. Look for a stated battery minimum. Read the box contents, so you know whether you need a charger. Even at half price, a Pixel 7 would cost £7.71 per month of updates (£92.50 ÷ 12), still more than a Pixel 8 Pro at £5.77.

What does refurbished mean for a Google Pixel from The Tech Gadgets?

Each refurbished Pixel has had a previous owner. It is tested, cleaned, factory reset and removed from the previous owner's Google account, then graded on cosmetic condition: Like New, Excellent or Very Good. Every grade is fully working and has at least 85% battery health at dispatch. The Pixel listings are titled “Refurbished (UK)” and are refurbished UK stock.

The grades describe wear on the glass, frame and camera bar. Like New has no visible marks on the screen or body. Excellent shows light signs of use that are hard to spot at arm's length. Very Good has visible marks on the body, with the screen in good shape. The full method is on our testing and grading page.

In the box you get the phone, a free USB-C charging cable, a free SIM ejector pin and protective packaging. There's no mains plug and no retail box, so use a USB-C charger you already own.

Cover comes from The Tech Gadgets: a 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets, starting on delivery, covering faults that develop in normal use (not accidental or liquid damage). The warranty policy lists battery defects and reduced capacity as exclusions, so check the battery when the phone arrives. A faulty battery within 30 days is still covered by your Consumer Rights Act right to reject. You also get change-of-mind returns within 30 days if unused and complete (you pay return postage), plus your 14-day right to cancel. The details are in our returns and warranty policy.

Orders placed by 3pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day from Manchester. Every Pixel here costs more than £50, so standard delivery (1–3 working days) is free; Special Delivery (next working day) is £9.99. The IP68 and IP67 ratings describe each phone when new, so don't rely on water resistance after refurbishment.

Pixel checks to make when your refurbished phone arrives

Google account and set-up

Set-up should take you straight to signing in with your own Google account. If the phone ever asks for a previous owner's account, stop and contact the team, because a phone you can't set up is faulty and your warranty and Consumer Rights Act rights apply.

Update status

Open Settings, then About phone, then Android version. This screen shows the Android version and the Android security update date. Then go to Settings, System, Software updates and install anything waiting before you move your data across. A current security date confirms the phone is receiving Google's updates.

Battery: there's no health screen on these models

Google's Pixel battery help page says the Battery health screen, with its Normal or Reduced status, is only on the Pixel 8a and later. It states that the Pixel 7, 7a and 8 Pro don't indicate battery health status. Google rates batteries from the Pixel 3 to the Pixel 8 Pro to keep up to 80% of their capacity for about 800 charge cycles.

In the first week, charge to full, use the phone normally and watch how quickly the percentage falls. Check that the back sits flat with no gaps at the edges. Pixel 7a buyers should also read the repair programme answer in the FAQ below.

Who should buy a Samsung or iPhone instead of a Pixel?

Buy an iPhone instead if your family and friends use iMessage and FaceTime, or you already own a Mac or Apple Watch. Look at a refurbished Samsung Galaxy if you want a stylus, a newer model with a longer update window, or a wider choice of sizes. A Pixel suits people who want plain Android and Google's own camera software.

Our Samsung vs Pixel vs OnePlus vs Nothing comparison covers the brand choice in depth. If an iPhone is in the running, our round-up of the best refurbished phones for 2026 sets the Pixels against iPhone picks at each budget.

Who should not buy a refurbished Pixel from this range? Anyone who wants five or more years of updates, because the longest runway here ends in October 2030. Anyone who needs 512GB on a tight budget, because only the 8 Pro offers it, from £443.99. And anyone who will only trust a used phone that shows a battery health percentage on screen.

Refurbished Google Pixel FAQ

Is a refurbished Google Pixel the same as a second-hand one?

Both have had a previous owner, but a refurbished Pixel has been through a seller's process before resale. Ours are tested, cleaned, factory reset, removed from the previous Google account and graded, with at least 85% battery health at dispatch. A phone from a private seller usually has none of those checks, no warranty and fewer legal rights.

Can I check battery health on a refurbished Pixel 7, 7a or 8 Pro?

Not in Settings. Google says the Battery health screen is only on the Pixel 8a and later, and that the Pixel 7, 7a and 8 Pro don't indicate battery health status. That's why the store's minimum of 85% battery health at dispatch matters on these three. In your first week, watch how fast the charge drops with normal use, and contact the team within 30 days if the battery drains unusually quickly or the case starts to lift.

Does a refurbished Pixel come with a charger?

No plug is included. You get the phone, a free USB-C charging cable, a free SIM ejector pin and protective packaging. Any USB-C Power Delivery charger works. Google quotes its fastest wired charging on the Pixel 7 and 8 Pro, up to 50% in about 30 minutes, with its 30W USB-C charger, sold separately. All three phones also charge on Qi wireless pads.

Will a refurbished Pixel work on my UK network?

Yes. All three are unlocked and work on EE, O2, Vodafone, Three and the networks that run on them, such as giffgaff. Each has a nano-SIM slot plus eSIM, so you can run two numbers if your network supports eSIM. 5G works where your plan and coverage allow it, and features such as Wi-Fi Calling depend on your network rather than the phone alone.

Should the Pixel 7a battery repair programme put me off?

Not on its own, but know the signs. Google has an extended repair programme for some Pixel 7a phones whose batteries may swell. The signs it lists are a phone that looks thicker, a bulging back, gaps along the edges, or a battery that drains much faster than usual. Coverage lasts three years from the first retail purchase, and Google decides eligibility. If your refurbished 7a shows any of these signs within 30 days, your right to reject applies.

Are there Google Pixel Black Friday deals on refurbished phones?

We don't announce sale prices in advance, and this guide only quotes prices checked on 5 October 2026. Whenever you buy, judge a refurbished Pixel deal on cost per month of updates rather than the size of the discount. A Pixel 8 Pro from £276.99 works out at £5.77 per month of Google support. To match that, a Pixel 7 would need to cost less than £69.24 (£5.77 × 12), because its updates end in October 2027.

Verdict: which refurbished Google Pixel to buy

Choose the Pixel 8 Pro when you want a refurbished Google Pixel you can keep until 2030, or you care about zoom photos and the largest, sharpest screen. From £276.99, it costs the least per month of updates of the three.

Choose the Pixel 7a instead when you want a smaller, lighter phone for under £200 and you'll upgrade by 2028. Choose the Pixel 7 when the lowest price matters most, you want 256GB on a budget, or you only need a phone for about a year.

Buy something else if you need a stylus, live in the Apple world, or want more than four years of updates from today. Whichever Pixel you pick, you get the same 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets, at least 85% battery health at dispatch and same-day dispatch on weekday orders placed by 3pm.
