For most buyers in October 2026, no. The refurbished Samsung Galaxy A33 5G is still a capable phone, with a 6.4-inch 90Hz AMOLED screen, a stabilised 48MP camera and an IP67 rating when new, but Samsung UK lists its security updates only until 31 March 2027, just under six months away. At £123.99 for Very Good 128GB (checked 5 October 2026), it costs £1.00 less than a Very Good Galaxy A54 5G that Samsung UK supports until 31 March 2028.
The A33 still makes sense for one kind of buyer: an existing owner who wants an identical replacement and will plan the next phone before spring 2027. If you simply want the most phone for the least money, the refurbished Galaxy A53 5G is £30.00 cheaper with a better screen and cameras, though its update runway is no longer than the A33's.
Grade and colour are chosen on the product page. Prices were checked on 5 October 2026 and can change.
Galaxy A33 5G in October 2026: the quick decision
- Best for: replacing a lost or broken Galaxy A33 5G like for like, keeping your case, size and layout, for a few months of use.
- Consider an alternative when: the phone will be your main device beyond spring 2027, you bank or pay with it, or you want eSIM or a 120Hz screen. The Galaxy A54 5G, A34 5G and A35 5G all run to at least 31 March 2028 for £1.00 to £13.00 more, and the A54 and A35 add eSIM.
- Check before buying: the security patch level on arrival, that you're comfortable with updates ending on 31 March 2027, and that you don't need a headphone jack, eSIM or wireless charging. Every refurbished Galaxy A phone in this guide is international stock, so box printing and the model code may differ from UK units, and Samsung UK may not carry out warranty repairs on non-UK units (The Tech Gadgets' 12-month warranty is your cover). If you rely on Wi-Fi Calling or 4G Calling (VoLTE) on a particular network, ask the team before ordering.
Galaxy A33 5G buying facts

What The Tech Gadgets lists today, for the refurbished Galaxy A33 5G:
| Listing detail (checked 5 October 2026) | Galaxy A33 5G, Refurbished |

| Excellent, 128GB | £130.99 |

The hardware has aged better than the software. A Full HD+ AMOLED screen at 90Hz, a main camera with optical stabilisation, 6GB of RAM and an IP67 design rating are still things many newer budget phones lack; the Galaxy A16 5G, for example, has 4GB of RAM, no OIS and IP54. If the A33's support date were years away rather than months, it would be a sound buy at this price. The date is the whole problem.
How long will the Galaxy A33 5G get security updates?
Until 31 March 2027, according to Samsung UK's spec page for the Galaxy A33 5G. That is 5.8 months from 5 October 2026 (177 days ÷ 30.44). Samsung's launch promise was up to four Android upgrades and up to five years of security updates, and the UK date fits five years from the phone's March 2022 announcement. There is no newer commitment to rely on.
Samsung's security-update list, checked on 5 October 2026, places the Galaxy A33 5G among models that get quarterly updates. On that schedule, the remaining window leaves room for roughly two more patch releases (our estimate, not Samsung's). Our own A33 listing currently says April 2027; Samsung UK's 31 March 2027 is the date to plan around.
Android upgrades have already run their course. Android 12 plus four upgrades points to Android 16 as the last one (computed), and Samsung UK's A33 page carries an Android 16 user manual dated October 2025. The commitment doesn't stretch to Android 17. When you buy a refurbished A33 now, you're buying the final software it will get, plus a short tail of security patches.
What happens when the A33's security updates stop?
The phone keeps working. Calls, texts, the camera and your installed apps carry on as before. What stops is the flow of fixes: Samsung's security releases patch Android flaws published by Google and Samsung's own software issues, so after 31 March 2027 any newly discovered flaw on a Galaxy A33 5G stays open.
That risk grows slowly rather than all at once, and it depends on how you use the phone. A handset used for calls, messages and a handful of trusted apps is less exposed than one that handles your banking, work email and browsing on public Wi-Fi.
You can see where any Galaxy stands in Settings, About phone, Software information, under “Android security patch level”. That date shows the most recent set of fixes installed. On an A33 bought now it should be recent; after March 2027 it will simply stop moving forward, and the gap between that date and today is a fair measure of how exposed the phone is.
Apps are the other pressure point. Banking and payment apps set their own minimum requirements and can raise them over time, so an unpatched phone may eventually be refused by some of them. Each app decides that for itself, so nobody can give you a date. Android 16 is recent enough that app compatibility is unlikely to be the first problem; the missing patches are.
Before you buy any used Galaxy, check its support date the way our guide to whether a refurbished Samsung is worth it explains. For the A33, the practical rule is simple:
- Fine for: a stopgap until spring 2027, a spare, or a phone kept for calls and messages.
- Not ideal for: a main phone you'll keep into 2028, or one that holds banking, payment or work accounts.
Galaxy A33 5G vs Galaxy A53 5G: the cheaper phone is the better-equipped one
The refurbished Galaxy A53 5G costs £30.00 to £34.00 less than the Galaxy A33 5G grade for grade, and it was the higher-tier phone at launch (£399 against £329). It has a larger 120Hz screen, a 64MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide and a 32MP selfie camera, with the same processor clocks, battery and IP67 rating. Its weakness is the same short update runway.
The two phones launched together in March 2022. The table compares them on Samsung's UK specifications and today's refurbished prices.
| Feature | Galaxy A33 5G, Refurbished | Galaxy A53 5G, Refurbished |
|---|---|---|
| Very Good, 128GB | £123.99 | £93.99 (£30.00 less) |
| Excellent, 128GB | £130.99 | £98.99 (£32.00 less) |
| Like New, 128GB | £138.99 | £104.99 (£34.00 less) |
| Display | 6.4in Super AMOLED, 90Hz | 6.5in Super AMOLED, 120Hz |
| Main camera | 48MP with OIS | 64MP with OIS |
| Ultra-wide and selfie cameras | 8MP and 13MP | 12MP and 32MP |
| Processor and UK RAM | 2.4GHz + 2GHz, 5nm; 6GB | 2.4GHz + 2GHz, 5nm; 6GB |
| Battery, charging, IP rating | 5,000mAh, 25W, IP67 | 5,000mAh, 25W, IP67 |
| Size and weight | 159.7 x 74.0 x 8.1mm, 186g | 159.6 x 74.8 x 8.1mm, 189g |
| Security updates | Samsung UK: until 31 March 2027 | Up to 5 years promised; no Samsung “valid until” date found |
On hardware, the refurbished Galaxy A53 5G wins nearly everywhere, and the price maths is blunt: £123.99 − £93.99 = £30.00 saved on Very Good 128GB. Even a Very Good 256GB A53 at £111.99 costs £12.00 less than the 128GB A33. Samsung UK sold the A53 only as 6GB + 128GB, so ask the team what RAM a 256GB unit has.
Day to day, the 120Hz screen is the difference you'll notice first, because scrolling and swiping look smoother than at 90Hz. The higher-resolution ultra-wide and selfie cameras matter for group shots and video calls, and Samsung's spec for the A53 lists 4K video at 30fps. Performance should feel similar, since Samsung lists the same 5nm processor clocks and 6GB of RAM for both.
The support picture is where honesty matters. Samsung promised the A53 the same up-to-five-year security window as the A33, without stating a start date, and we couldn't find a Samsung “valid until” date for it on UK or Irish pages. The two launched together in spring 2022, so with no later date published, plan as if both end around spring 2027.
Choose the Galaxy A53 5G when you want the best screen and cameras for the least money and accept that updates are ending. Choose the Galaxy A33 5G instead when you need an exact replacement for an A33, or you prefer its slightly narrower, lighter body.
Spend £1 to £13 more and get a year of extra updates
If the phone will be your main device into 2028, this is the comparison that decides it. Three refurbished alternatives cost little more than a Very Good Galaxy A33 5G, and Samsung UK lists security updates for all of them until 31 March 2028.
The last column divides each price by the months of Samsung security support left from 5 October 2026 to each end date (days ÷ 30.44, to one decimal place). For the A33 that is £123.99 ÷ 5.8 = £21.38 a month. The phone works beyond its end date; the figure simply shows what each pound of support buys.
| Refurbished, Very Good, 128GB | Price | Difference from A33 | Samsung UK “valid until” | Support left (months) | Price per month of support |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A33 5G | £123.99 | None | 31 March 2027 | 5.8 | £21.38 |
| Galaxy A54 5G | £124.99 | +£1.00 | 31 March 2028 | 17.8 | £7.02 |
| Galaxy A34 5G | £131.99 | +£8.00 | 31 March 2028 | 17.8 | £7.42 |
| Galaxy A35 5G | £136.99 | +£13.00 | 31 March 2028 (see note) | 17.8 | £7.70 |
| Galaxy A16 5G | £128.99 | +£5.00 | 31 October 2030 | 48.9 | £2.64 |
Galaxy A54 5G. For £124.99 − £123.99 = £1.00 more, the refurbished Galaxy A54 5G in Very Good condition brings a 6.4-inch 120Hz screen, a 50MP stabilised main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 32MP selfie camera, IP67 when new and eSIM support, with 8GB of RAM according to our listing (Samsung UK also sold a 6GB + 128GB version, so ask if RAM matters). It's 2.7mm wider and 16g heavier than the A33. This is the clearest upgrade on the page.
Galaxy A34 5G. £8.00 more buys a 6.6-inch 120Hz screen rated at 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode, a 48MP stabilised camera and IP67. There's no eSIM, and it's the widest of the group at 78.1mm.
Galaxy A35 5G. The refurbished Galaxy A35 5G costs £13.00 more and adds eSIM, a 50MP stabilised camera and a 1,000-nit 120Hz screen, at 209g. Its dates conflict: Samsung promised five years of security updates from a March 2024 launch, which points to about March 2029, but Samsung UK's spec page says 31 March 2028, and our listing quotes March 2029. We base advice on 31 March 2028; if the five-year promise holds, you'd get about 29.8 months instead of 17.8, or £4.60 a month (£136.99 ÷ 29.8).
Galaxy A16 5G. If long support matters more than camera quality, a Very Good A16 5G costs £5.00 more and runs to 31 October 2030. You'd give up OIS, IP67 (it's IP54), 2GB of RAM (4GB against 6GB) and the smaller body, so it's a different kind of phone rather than an A33 upgrade.
Each product page shows every grade, storage size and colour. Prices were checked on 5 October 2026 and can change.
Should a Galaxy A33 5G owner repair, replace like for like, or upgrade?
With updates ending on 31 March 2027, putting serious money into an old Galaxy A33 5G rarely pays. Replace it like for like only if keeping the same phone has a practical value to you, and you'll replace it again within months. Otherwise, upgrade to a model supported into 2028 for little more than another A33 costs.
Work through it by what went wrong:
- Cracked screen or tired battery. Get a repair quote and set it against £123.99 for a Very Good A33 or £124.99 for a Very Good A54. Our Galaxy A-series repair cost guide covers A16 to A56 models rather than the A33, but it shows how screen and battery quotes compare with replacement prices. A cheap battery fix to carry you to spring 2027 can make sense; an expensive screen rarely does.
- Lost, stolen or water-damaged. There's no repair to weigh, so buy the phone with the longest useful life for your budget: the A54 5G for £1.00 more than an A33, or the A53 5G if £30.00 matters more than updates.
- Working, but slow or out of storage. A new phone of the same model won't feel different. Clear storage, add a microSD card, or upgrade.
Like for like has real merits. Your case, screen protector and car mount fit, the fingerprint sensor is where your thumb expects it, and Samsung's Smart Switch app makes moving data between Galaxy phones straightforward. The A33 is also one of the smaller phones here: 74.0mm wide and 186g, against 76.7mm and 202g for the A54 and 78.0mm and 209g for the A35. If that size matters, the A53, at 74.8mm and 189g, is the closest match.
Replace like for like when you rely on A33-specific accessories, someone else in the household is used to the phone, or you need a reliable handset only until a planned upgrade next spring. Upgrade instead when you expect to keep the phone beyond March 2027, or when the A54 5G at £1.00 more gives you everything the A33 does plus a year of patches and eSIM.
Condition, battery and checks for a refurbished Galaxy A33 5G
The Galaxy A33 5G is listed in three grades, which describe cosmetic condition only. Like New has no visible marks; Excellent has light signs of use that are hard to spot at arm's length; Very Good has visible marks on the body with the screen in good shape. Every grade is fully working, tested and cleaned, with at least 85% battery health at dispatch, as set out on the grading and testing page.
Very Good to Excellent costs £7.00 more, and Excellent to Like New another £8.00. With six months of updates left, we'd put the money towards a better-supported model rather than a cleaner A33; if you're buying an A33 anyway, Very Good is the sensible grade.
With updates ending in March 2027, the security patch level matters as much as the battery on an A33, so note both. The 85% minimum describes how much of its capacity when new the battery can still hold; Samsung's 5,000mAh is the design figure for a new phone. The box has no plug, and Samsung's 25W Super Fast Charging needs a compatible USB-C charger.
The IP67 rating applies to the A33 as Samsung designed it when new; the FAQ below explains what that means for a refurbished unit.
In the first week, confirm that the model code in Settings, About phone matches the listing, then open Software information and note the Android security patch level before installing any waiting update. Record the battery health figure, make a call and use mobile data on your own SIM (and 5G, if your plan has it), and try the fingerprint sensor, cameras, speakers and a contactless payment.
The warranty policy lists battery defects and reduced capacity as exclusions. Check battery health when the phone arrives. A faulty battery within 30 days is still covered by your Consumer Rights Act right to reject.
Buying a refurbished Galaxy A33 5G from The Tech Gadgets
Each phone on the refurbished Galaxy A33 5G listing is unlocked for EE, O2, Vodafone, Three and other UK networks, factory reset and signed out of the previous owner's accounts. 5G, VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling depend on your network and plan.
A Very Good A33 comes with a 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets, starting on delivery, covering faults that develop in normal use (not accidental or liquid damage). That warranty outlasts Samsung's security updates by about six months, which is worth knowing: it covers hardware faults, not software support. The returns and warranty terms also give you change-of-mind returns within 30 days if the phone is unused and complete (you pay return postage), plus your 14-day right to cancel.
Orders placed by 3pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day from Manchester, with standard delivery in 1–3 working days, free over £50, as the shipping policy sets out. You can compare every model mentioned here among the Samsung Galaxy phones in stock.
Samsung Galaxy A33 5G, Refurbished
- At least 85% battery health at dispatch on every listed grade

- Same-day dispatch from Manchester on weekday orders placed by 3pm
Who should not buy a refurbished Galaxy A33 5G
- Anyone keeping a main phone into 2028: security updates end on 31 March 2027.
- People who bank, pay or work on their phone: they're most exposed once patches stop.
- eSIM users: Samsung UK lists nano-SIM only.
- Wired headphone users: there's no 3.5mm jack.
- Value hunters with no attachment to the A33: the A53 5G is cheaper and the A54 5G is better supported for almost the same price.
Galaxy A33 5G: buyer questions
Is there a 4G version of the Samsung Galaxy A33?
Not in the UK. Samsung UK sold the A33 as the Galaxy A33 5G, model SM-A336B, and every unit we list is a Galaxy A33 5G. It works on 4G wherever 5G isn't available, so a 4G-only SIM plan is fine. If you're searching for a Samsung A33 4G in the UK, the A33 5G is the phone you'll find.
When was the Galaxy A33 5G released, and what did it cost?
Samsung announced the Galaxy A33 5G on 17 March 2022 alongside the Galaxy A53 5G, and it went on sale in the UK on 22 April 2022 at £329 for 6GB + 128GB. Today a refurbished Very Good 128GB unit is £123.99 (checked 5 October 2026), and Samsung UK lists its security updates until 31 March 2027.
Will the Galaxy A33 5G get Android 17?
No. Samsung promised up to four Android upgrades from Android 12, which takes it to Android 16 (computed), and Samsung UK publishes an Android 16 user manual for the phone. Android 17 isn't part of that commitment. Security patches continue until 31 March 2027 on Samsung's quarterly schedule, so check that any unit you buy has the latest update installed.
Can I keep using a Galaxy A33 5G after March 2027?
Yes. It will keep making calls, sending messages and running your apps. It simply won't receive fixes for new security flaws, and some banking or payment apps may eventually stop supporting it, on timescales each app sets. For a spare or a phone used mainly for calls, that can be acceptable; for a main phone with sensitive accounts, plan to replace it.
Does the Galaxy A33 5G have eSIM or a headphone jack?
Neither. Samsung UK's spec lists nano-SIM only, with a hybrid slot that takes either a second SIM or a microSD card, and audio goes through the USB-C port. If you want eSIM at a similar price, the refurbished Galaxy A54 5G lists eSIM on Samsung UK's spec and costs £1.00 more in Very Good 128GB.
Will a Galaxy A33 5G case fit a Galaxy A53 5G or A54 5G?
Generally no. Samsung lists the A33 at 159.7 x 74.0 x 8.1mm, the A53 at 159.6 x 74.8 x 8.1mm and the A54 at 158.2 x 76.7 x 8.2mm, and camera positions differ too. Even the near-identical A53 is 0.8mm wider. Buy a case made for the model you choose.
Is a refurbished Galaxy A33 5G still waterproof?
Samsung rated the A33 5G IP67 when new, but no refurbished or used phone can be guaranteed to keep factory water resistance: its seals may have aged, or been disturbed during repair. Liquid damage is also excluded from the warranty, so treat it as a phone to keep dry and away from pools and baths.
Verdict: is a refurbished Galaxy A33 5G worth buying?
Only as a like-for-like replacement. The Galaxy A33 5G is a well-made phone with a good screen, a stabilised camera and a solid battery, but at £123.99 it is priced alongside phones Samsung supports for a year longer, and above a better-equipped A53 5G. Its security updates end on 31 March 2027.
For most people, the refurbished Galaxy A54 5G is the answer: £1.00 more, 120Hz, eSIM, better cameras and updates to 31 March 2028. If you want eSIM and Samsung's longer five-year promise to have a chance of running past 2028, the A35 5G is worth its £13.00 premium. If price is all that matters and you accept that updates are ending, the A53 5G saves £30.00. Buy the A33 when you want the exact phone you already know, and put a reminder in your diary for spring 2027.
