Galaxy A33 vs A34 vs A35 (Refurbished): Which Mid-Range to Buy

Three similar-looking refurbished Samsungs, £13 apart at 128GB. We compare what each generation step actually buys, the cost per year of Samsung security support, and which Galaxy A3x to choose for your budget.

Of the three, the refurbished Samsung Galaxy A35 5G is the one most people should buy. In Very Good condition with 128GB it costs from £136.99 (checked 5 October 2026), just £5.00 more than the equivalent Galaxy A34 5G, and at 256GB it's £5.00 cheaper. For that you get eSIM, Samsung's Knox Vault security chip and a glass back. The Galaxy A34 5G is a fair saving if you need none of those, while the Galaxy A33 5G is hard to recommend at all: Samsung UK lists its security updates ending on 31 March 2027.

One caveat shapes everything below. Samsung's UK spec pages give the A34 5G and A35 5G the same security end date, 31 March 2028, even though Samsung promised the A35 five years of security updates from a March 2024 launch. Those two don't line up, so our advice is built on the earlier date.

Galaxy A33 5G vs A34 5G vs A35 5G: the quick decision

  • Best for: the Galaxy A35 5G suits most mid-budget buyers, especially anyone wanting eSIM or 256GB. The Galaxy A34 5G suits buyers who want a 120Hz screen and support into 2028 for the lowest price in this trio. The Galaxy A33 5G mainly suits an A33 owner replacing one like for like.
  • Consider an alternative when: you want 128GB and the lowest cost per year of support, because a Very Good Galaxy A54 5G costs £124.99 with the same Samsung UK end date; or you need a phone for under a year, where a Galaxy A53 5G at £93.99 beats the A33.
  • Check before buying: whether you need eSIM (only the A35 has it), whether 2028 is long enough, and whether you own a USB-C plug, as none is included.

What The Tech Gadgets lists now, and the price gaps that matter

All three are sold refurbished in three cosmetic grades. Prices are “from” figures, checked 5 October 2026.

Colours: A33 5G in Awesome Black, Blue, Peach or White; A34 5G in Awesome Graphite, Lime or Silver; A35 5G in Awesome Iceblue, Lemon, Lilac or Navy. Two quirks matter. A Like New A33 5G (£138.99) costs £2.00 more than a Very Good A35 5G (£136.99). And at 256GB the newer phone is cheaper at every grade: a Very Good A35 5G is £157.99 − £152.99 = £5.00 less than a Very Good A34 5G, and the gap holds at every grade.

What does the £8 step from Galaxy A33 5G to A34 5G buy?

A noticeably better screen and an extra year of security updates. The Galaxy A34 5G moves from 90Hz to 120Hz on a larger 6.6-inch panel with Vision Booster, and Samsung UK lists its updates until 31 March 2028 instead of 31 March 2027. At Very Good 128GB that costs £8.00, which is the easiest upgrade decision in this comparison.

You'll notice the refresh rate first: at 120Hz, scrolling looks smoother than at 90Hz. Vision Booster is Samsung's system for keeping colours visible in bright light, and Samsung publishes a 1,000-nit peak for the A34 but no figure for the A33.

What you give up is minor. The refurbished Galaxy A34 5G drops the A33's 2MP depth camera, keeps a 48MP OIS main camera and gains 13g. The real value is one more year of patches for £8.00, a gap that holds at Excellent (£138.99 − £130.99) and widens to £9.00 at Like New (£147.99 − £138.99).

What does the £5 step from Galaxy A34 5G to A35 5G buy?

Features rather than time. The Galaxy A35 5G adds eSIM, Samsung's Knox Vault security chip, a glass back and a 50MP main camera, and it launched a year later on Android 14. On Samsung UK's own dates, though, its security updates end on the same day as the A34's. At 128GB it's £5.00 more; at 256GB it's £5.00 less.

eSIM is the most practical gain. If your network or a travel data provider issues eSIMs, the refurbished Galaxy A35 5G can use one, either on its own or alongside a physical nano-SIM. The A34 5G and A33 5G take physical nano-SIMs only.

Knox Vault is a separate, tamper-resistant security processor. Samsung brought it to the Galaxy A series for the first time with the A55 5G and A35 5G, and says it protects lock-screen credentials and encryption keys even if the phone is lost or stolen. It matters most if the phone holds banking or work data.

Build: Samsung describes the A35 5G as having “an elegant glass back and a flat side frame”, but doesn't state the A34 5G's back material. At 209g the A35 is also the heaviest.

Speed we can't settle: without our own testing we wouldn't choose between the Dimensity 1080 and Exynos 1380 (names from independent listings). RAM is a loose end too: Samsung UK's A35 launch prices are for 8GB, one Samsung UK spec page shows 6GB, and The Tech Gadgets lists both phones as 6GB or 8GB, so ask if RAM matters.

How long will each phone get security updates, and what does a year cost?

Samsung UK lists the Galaxy A33 5G until 31 March 2027 and both the A34 5G and A35 5G until 31 March 2028. Samsung promised the A35 five years of security updates from its March 2024 launch, which would mean about March 2029, but its UK page says 2028. On the earlier, safer dates, the A34 is fractionally cheaper per year at 128GB.

Samsung's security-update scope page (checked 5 October 2026) lists all three in its main Galaxy A group for quarterly updates, so patches arrive every few months rather than monthly. For the A35, Samsung's commitment is up to four Android upgrades and five years of security updates, yet its UK “valid until” date is 31 March 2028. Those don't line up, so we treat 31 March 2028 as the planning date and the five-year promise as possible upside, not something to pay for.

Each phone was also promised up to four Android upgrades, from Android 12, 13 and 14 respectively, so on paper the A35's run one version further than the A34's.

Support runs from 5 October 2026 to each Samsung UK date (days ÷ 30.44 for months, months ÷ 12 for years, to one decimal): 5.8 months (0.5 years) for the A33 5G and 17.8 months (1.5 years) for the A34 5G and A35 5G. Where Samsung's dates conflict, the maths uses the earlier one. Cost per year is the from-price shown divided by those years.

Refurbished model, grade, storage Price (checked 5 Oct 2026) Security end (Samsung UK) Months left from 5 Oct 2026 Years left Cost per year of support
Galaxy A33 5G, Very Good, 128GB £123.99 31 March 2027 5.8 0.5 £247.98
Galaxy A34 5G, Very Good, 128GB £131.99 31 March 2028 17.8 1.5 £87.99
Galaxy A35 5G, Very Good, 128GB £136.99 31 March 2028 (earlier of two Samsung dates) 17.8 1.5 £91.33
Galaxy A34 5G, Very Good, 256GB £157.99 31 March 2028 17.8 1.5 £105.33
Galaxy A35 5G, Very Good, 256GB £152.99 31 March 2028 (earlier of two Samsung dates) 17.8 1.5 £101.99

The A33 5G costs almost three times as much per year of support as the other two, the clearest reason to skip it. Between the A34 and A35 at 128GB the difference is £3.34 a year (£91.33 − £87.99), small enough that features should decide. At 256GB the A35 is cheaper outright.

128GB or 256GB on the Galaxy A34 5G and A35 5G?

For most people, 128GB plus a microSD card, since all three phones take cards up to 1TB. If you want 256GB built in, buy it on the A35 5G: the premium is £16.00 at Very Good (£152.99 − £136.99) against £26.00 on the A34 5G (£157.99 − £131.99), and the 256GB A35 costs less than the 256GB A34 anyway.

Built-in storage still matters for apps and app data, which generally stay on internal storage, so heavy gamers benefit from 256GB; photos, videos and music can go to a card. On all three, the card goes in the hybrid slot, which is also the second nano-SIM position, so adding one means giving up a second physical SIM. The A33 5G comes in 128GB only.

Cameras, battery and charging: closer than the model numbers suggest

Very close. All three have an OIS main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide, a 5MP macro and a 13MP selfie camera, plus a 5,000mAh battery with 25W wired charging. The A35's 50MP sensor against 48MP isn't a reason to pay more on its own, and none of these differences should outweigh support dates, screen or eSIM.

We haven't run camera or battery tests, so we won't rank them on image quality or endurance. OIS on every main camera helps with low light and walking video. The A34's 25W figure comes from an independent listing; Samsung confirms 25W for the A33 and A35. Because all three share the same 5,000mAh specification, the battery health of the individual phone you receive (at least 85% at dispatch) matters more than which model you pick.

When does the Galaxy A33 5G still make sense?

Rarely. At £123.99 for Very Good 128GB, the Galaxy A33 5G costs £8.00 less than an A34 5G with a year more support, and £30.00 more than a Galaxy A53 5G from the same 2022 launch. It fits two buyers: an A33 owner replacing a broken phone like for like, and someone who wants the narrowest, lightest phone here for a few months.

The like-for-like case is the strongest: if your A33 5G has broken, a refurbished A33 keeps your case, screen protector and habits until its 31 March 2027 security date. It's also the most pocketable here at 74.0mm wide and 186g. For nearly everyone else, the refurbished Galaxy A53 5G as a budget alternative does the same short-term job for less: Very Good 128GB from £93.99, which is £123.99 − £93.99 = £30.00 cheaper, with a 120Hz screen and a 64MP OIS camera, in a body only 0.8mm wider and 3g heavier. Samsung UK has no published end date for the A53, so plan on spring 2027 at the latest for both.

Alternatives: is the Galaxy A54 5G the better buy?

At 128GB, yes, if you don't need the bigger screen or Knox Vault. A Very Good 128GB refurbished Galaxy A54 5G costs from £124.99, £7.00 less than the A34 5G and £12.00 less than the A35 5G, with the same Samsung UK end date of 31 March 2028. At £83.33 per year of support (£124.99 ÷ 1.5), it's the cheapest here.

It also has eSIM, OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide and a 32MP selfie camera, on a smaller 6.4-inch screen.

The A54 loses on three counts: no Knox Vault, which reached the Galaxy A series only with the 2024 models; a smaller screen; and a far dearer 256GB version, at £184.99 for Very Good. So the decision rules look like this:

  • Choose the Galaxy A35 5G when you want 256GB, a 6.6-inch screen, Knox Vault, or the chance of support running past 2028.
  • Choose the Galaxy A54 5G instead when you want 128GB with eSIM at the lowest price, and the better selfie camera on paper matters more than screen size.
  • Choose the Galaxy A34 5G when you prefer its 6.6-inch screen to the A54's smaller one, don't need eSIM, and want to save £5.00 over the A35 at 128GB.
  • Choose the Galaxy A53 5G when you need a phone for a year or less and want to spend under £100.

Spending more is justified only if you want support well beyond 2028. The refurbished Galaxy A36 5G has a Samsung UK date of 31 March 2031 but starts at £211.99 for Very Good 128GB, £75.00 more than the A35 5G (£211.99 − £136.99).

Who should not buy a refurbished Galaxy A33, A34 or A35 5G?

  • Anyone who needs Samsung security support past 31 March 2028: none of the three is listed beyond it on Samsung UK's pages.
  • eSIM users choosing between the A33 5G and A34 5G, since only the A35 5G supports eSIM.
  • Buyers who want charging faster than 25W or an IP68 design rating: all three are 25W phones designed to IP67.
  • Anyone planning to keep one phone for four years or more.

Condition, storage and colour are chosen on each product page. Prices were checked on 5 October 2026 and can change.

Condition, battery and what to check when it arrives

The grade describes appearance only: Very Good means visible marks on the body with the screen in good shape, Excellent light signs of use hard to spot at arm's length, Like New no visible marks. Each phone is tested and cleaned in Manchester; see how refurbished Samsungs are tested and graded. For an A34 5G or A35 5G you'll keep until 2028, Excellent at £7.00 to £9.00 over Very Good is a reasonable middle ground; Like New mainly makes sense as a gift.

Every grade of all three models has at least 85% battery health at dispatch. The warranty policy lists battery defects and reduced capacity as exclusions, so check battery health when the phone arrives. A faulty battery within 30 days is still covered by your Consumer Rights Act right to reject.

The box holds the phone, a USB-C charging cable, a SIM ejector pin and protective packaging, with no plug and not Samsung's retail box. In the first few days, install any waiting update and note the security patch date; then test every camera, calls and mobile data on your own SIM.

All three were designed to IP67, but that describes the phones when new. Seals on a used phone can age or be disturbed during repair, and liquid damage is excluded from the warranty, so don't rely on water resistance. Our broader take on whether a refurbished Samsung is worth it covers the general risks.

Buying an A33 5G, A34 5G or A35 5G from The Tech Gadgets

Whichever you choose, you get a 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets, starting on delivery and covering faults that develop in normal use (not accidental or liquid damage). For an A35 5G bought this month, that runs to October 2027, two-thirds of the way to its Samsung UK security date. The full terms are in the returns and warranty policy.

If you change your mind, returns are accepted within 30 days if the phone is unused and complete, with you paying return postage, and you also have a 14-day right to cancel. Orders placed by 3pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day from Manchester, and standard delivery takes 1–3 working days, free over £50. All three phones are unlocked for EE, O2, Vodafone, Three and other UK networks; 5G, VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling depend on your network and plan. Like every Galaxy A-series phone we sell, all three are international stock rather than UK units: model codes may differ from UK phones', and Samsung UK may not carry out manufacturer warranty repairs on non-UK units, so The Tech Gadgets' 12-month warranty is your cover. If you rely on Wi-Fi Calling or 4G Calling (VoLTE) on a particular network, ask the team before ordering. If you're weighing these against the A16 to A56 range, our guide to the wider refurbished Galaxy A-series sets out the newer tiers.

Galaxy A33, A34 and A35: buyer questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy A34 5G still worth buying in 2026?

Yes, if you're happy with support to 31 March 2028 and don't need eSIM. From £131.99 for Very Good 128GB (checked 5 October 2026), it gives you a 6.6-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED screen, an OIS main camera and an IP67 design. It's harder to justify at 256GB, where the A35 5G is £5.00 cheaper, or against a Very Good 128GB A54 5G at £124.99 with the same end date.

Which is faster, the Galaxy A34 5G or Galaxy A35 5G?

We can't say from our own testing, and Samsung doesn't name either chip on its UK pages. Independent listings give the A34 5G a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 and the A35 5G an Exynos 1380. Samsung lists 2.6GHz + 2GHz and 2.4GHz + 2GHz respectively, but clock speed alone doesn't tell you real-world performance. Choose on eSIM, Knox Vault and price instead.

Do the Galaxy A33, A34 and A35 support eSIM?

Only the Galaxy A35 5G. Samsung's UK specification lists nano-SIM plus embedded SIM for the A35, and nano-SIM only for the A33 5G and A34 5G. If your network has moved you to eSIM, or you want a travel eSIM alongside your main number, the A35 is the only one of the three that will do it.

When did the Galaxy A34 come out, and what did it cost?

Samsung announced the Galaxy A34 5G on 15 March 2023 for March availability, at UK launch prices of £349 for 6GB + 128GB and £399 for 8GB + 256GB. A Very Good 128GB refurbished A34 5G now costs from £131.99, about 38% of that launch price. The A35 5G followed a year later, on sale in the UK from 20 March 2024.

Why does Samsung UK say the A35's updates end in 2028 if it promised five years?

We don't know, and Samsung hasn't said. The 2024 launch release promises five years of security updates without stating the start point, while the Samsung UK spec page gives 31 March 2028. The Tech Gadgets' own listing says March 2029. Because the sources disagree, we plan around 31 March 2028 and treat a longer window as a bonus. If Samsung updates the page, the A35's case gets stronger.

Samsung A33 vs A53: which should I buy?

The Galaxy A53 5G, in almost every case. Both launched in 2022 and both are near the end of their update windows. The A53 has a 6.5-inch 120Hz screen against the A33's 6.4-inch 90Hz, a 64MP OIS main camera against 48MP, and a 32MP selfie camera against 13MP. At Very Good 128GB it's also £30.00 cheaper (£123.99 − £93.99).

What is Knox Vault, and does it matter on a phone this age?

Knox Vault is a separate, tamper-resistant security processor that Samsung says keeps PINs, passwords and encryption keys isolated from the main chip. It arrived in the Galaxy A series with the A55 5G and A35 5G, so the A33 5G and A34 5G don't have it. It matters most if the phone holds banking, work or health data and could be lost or stolen.

Verdict: the Galaxy A35 5G for most buyers, chosen by storage and need

Buy the Galaxy A35 5G, Very Good, 128GB at £136.99 if you want the best all-round phone of the three. If you want built-in space, the Very Good 256GB A35 5G at £152.99 is the clear storage pick, since it undercuts the 256GB A34. Choose the Galaxy A34 5G, Very Good, 128GB at £131.99 only if £5.00 matters more than eSIM and Knox Vault. Skip the A33 5G unless you're replacing one like for like; the A53 5G is almost the same size (0.8mm wider, 3g heavier) and £30.00 cheaper.

Choose something else if you need guaranteed support past March 2028: none of these three gives it on Samsung UK's dates. If 128GB is enough and price per year is your measure, look hard at the A54 5G.

What would change this verdict? A Samsung UK date of 2029 for the A35 would widen its lead; an A34 5G 128GB price £15 or more below the A35's would make the A34 the value pick; an A33 5G priced below the A53 5G would make it a sensible stop-gap.
