For most people choosing between a refurbished Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A55 5G, the best value is the Galaxy A55 5G with 256GB. In Very Good condition it costs £194.99, just £10.00 more than a 256GB Galaxy A54 5G in the same grade (prices checked 5 October 2026). On a tighter budget, the 128GB Galaxy A54 5G at £124.99 saves £55.00 against the cheapest Galaxy A55 5G and gives up less than the gap suggests. The Galaxy A53 5G is the cheapest of the three, from £93.99, but it has the least software support left, so it suits a spare or short-term phone rather than one you plan to keep.
The limitation all three share is time: on Samsung UK's published dates, neither the Galaxy A54 5G nor the Galaxy A55 5G is listed for security updates beyond 31 March 2028. Every price here is for a refurbished phone sold unlocked by The Tech Gadgets.
Storage, colour and grade are chosen on each product page. Prices were checked on 5 October 2026 and can change.
Quick decision: Galaxy A53 5G, A54 5G or A55 5G?
- Best for most buyers: Galaxy A55 5G, 256GB, Very Good (£194.99): metal frame, newest chip, double the storage for £15.00 more than its 128GB version.
- Best on a tight budget: Galaxy A54 5G, 128GB, Very Good (£124.99): the same stabilised 50MP camera layout as the Galaxy A55 5G, eSIM and the shortest body.
- Short-term use only: Galaxy A53 5G, 128GB, Very Good (£93.99): Samsung's five-year security promise points to about the end of March 2027 (an estimate).
- Consider an alternative when: you'll keep the phone beyond March 2028 or want charging faster than 25W.
- Check before buying: whether you need eSIM (the Galaxy A53 5G has none) and whether you want a memory card and two physical SIMs at once (the slot is shared on all three).

The second table shows what The Tech Gadgets currently lists. All three are sold refurbished in Like New, Excellent and Very Good grades, each with at least 85% battery health at dispatch.

The price ladder: what each step up costs
This ladder sets every grade and storage option side by side, with the gap between neighbouring generations worked out. All are refurbished prices checked on 5 October 2026.
| Storage and grade | Galaxy A53 5G | Galaxy A54 5G | Galaxy A55 5G | A54 5G minus A53 5G | A55 5G minus A54 5G |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 128GB Very Good | £93.99 | £124.99 | £179.99 | £31.00 | £55.00 |
| 128GB Excellent | £98.99 | £131.99 | £189.99 | £33.00 | £58.00 |
| 128GB Like New | £104.99 | £139.99 | £201.99 | £35.00 | £62.00 |
| 256GB Very Good | £111.99 | £184.99 | £194.99 | £73.00 | £10.00 |
| 256GB Excellent | £118.99 | £195.99 | £205.99 | £77.00 | £10.00 |
| 256GB Like New | £125.99 | £206.99 | £217.99 | £81.00 | £11.00 |
At 256GB, the Galaxy A55 5G costs only £10.00 more
The ladder's most useful finding sits in the 256GB rows. A Very Good Galaxy A55 5G with 256GB costs £194.99 and the equivalent Galaxy A54 5G costs £184.99, so the newer phone is £10.00 more (£194.99 − £184.99). The gap is the same at Excellent and £11.00 at Like New. Going the other way, a 256GB Galaxy A54 5G in Very Good condition (£184.99) costs £5.00 more than a 128GB Galaxy A55 5G in the same grade (£179.99).
The reason is the storage premium. Moving from 128GB to 256GB adds £60.00 on the Galaxy A54 5G at Very Good (£184.99 − £124.99), but only £15.00 on the Galaxy A55 5G and £18.00 on the Galaxy A53 5G. That makes the 256GB Galaxy A54 5G the one configuration here that's hard to recommend. Prices can move independently, so recheck the refurbished Galaxy A54 5G listing and the Galaxy A55 5G grade and storage options before you buy.
At 128GB, the Galaxy A54 5G is the value pick
At 128GB the picture flips. The Galaxy A54 5G in Very Good condition is £55.00 cheaper than the Galaxy A55 5G (£179.99 − £124.99). For that saving you give up the metal frame, the newer, higher-clocked 4nm chip and 0.2 inches of screen. Camera hardware is almost identical, and on Samsung UK's dates the security-update end date is identical too. A buyer who needs a dependable phone for the next year or so, and who keeps under 128GB of photos and apps, should take the £55.00. One oddity at this end of the ladder: a 256GB Like New Galaxy A53 5G (£125.99) costs only £1.00 more than a 128GB Very Good Galaxy A54 5G, a trade covered in the questions below.
The upgrade path: what each generation changed
The Galaxy A54 5G succeeded the Galaxy A53 5G in March 2023, and the Galaxy A55 5G succeeded the Galaxy A54 5G in March 2024. The Galaxy A56 5G (2025) and Galaxy A57 5G (2026) have followed since.
Galaxy A53 5G to Galaxy A54 5G (2022 to 2023)
- Back panel: Gorilla Glass 5 on the back as well as the front; GSMArena lists a plastic back on the Galaxy A53 5G.
- eSIM: added. The Galaxy A53 5G takes physical nano-SIMs only.
- Cameras: the 64MP quad-camera became a 50MP triple-camera without the depth sensor; both keep OIS.
- Chip: a newer Exynos at the same official clock speeds, so the on-paper step is modest.
Galaxy A54 5G to Galaxy A55 5G (2023 to 2024)
- Frame: Samsung describes the Galaxy A55 5G's frame as metal, paired with Gorilla Glass Victus+.
- Chip: a 4nm Exynos 1480 at 2.75GHz, the biggest processor step in this comparison.
- Screen: 6.6 inches instead of 6.4, with an official 1,000-nit rating Samsung doesn't publish for the older two.
- Software start point: Android 14 at launch, two versions later than the Galaxy A53 5G, with the same promise of up to four OS upgrades.
Unchanged across all three: a 5,000mAh typical battery, 25W charging, IP67, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 32MP selfie camera, 4K30 video, NFC and the hybrid microSD slot.
Galaxy A55 5G vs A54 5G vs A53 5G: which is quickest on paper?
The refurbished Galaxy A55 5G has the most performance headroom of the three on paper. Samsung lists its Exynos 1480 at up to 2.75GHz on a 4nm process, while the Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A53 5G both top out at 2.4GHz on 5nm chips. The Tech Gadgets hasn't benchmarked these phones, so treat this as a specification comparison rather than a measured ranking.
Extra headroom matters most for games and heavy multitasking. RAM is the other variable. The Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A55 5G listings state 8GB, but the Galaxy A53 5G listing says 6GB or 8GB, and Samsung UK only sold that model as 6GB with 128GB. If RAM matters, ask The Tech Gadgets before ordering, particularly on the 256GB Galaxy A53 5G.
Which of the Galaxy A53, A54 and A55 5G has the best camera specification?
The three refurbished phones are closer on cameras than on anything else. The Galaxy A53 5G has a 64MP main camera plus a depth sensor; the Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A55 5G use a 50MP main camera. All three have optical image stabilisation on the main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 5MP macro and a 32MP selfie camera, and all record 4K at 30fps.
Megapixels alone don't settle image quality, and this guide compares specifications, not photo samples. Camera hardware is not a strong reason to pay the Galaxy A55 5G's £55.00 premium at 128GB.
Galaxy A53, A54 or A55 5G: which size and build suits you?
The Galaxy A55 5G is the only one of the three with a frame Samsung describes as metal, and it has the largest screen at 6.6 inches, but at 213g it is also the heaviest. The Galaxy A54 5G is the shortest at 158.2mm and has a glass back. The Galaxy A53 5G is the lightest at 189g, with a plastic back according to GSMArena.
In a case, the metal frame is mostly hidden and the 24g weight gap between the Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A55 5G is what you'll notice.
How long will each phone get security updates from October 2026?
From 5 October 2026, the refurbished Galaxy A54 5G has 17.8 months of security updates left, on Samsung UK's date of 31 March 2028. The Galaxy A55 5G shows the same 31 March 2028 date on Samsung UK, although its five-year promise suggests about March 2029. The Galaxy A53 5G has no published UK date; its promise points to about the end of March 2027, roughly 5.8 months away.
For the Galaxy A55 5G, Samsung's March 2024 launch announcement promised five years of security updates, while the samsung.com/uk specification page lists “valid until” 31 March 2028. The two don't line up and Samsung hasn't explained why, so this guide bases its advice on the more conservative 31 March 2028. The extra year is possible, but it isn't a published date you can plan around. All three phones were promised up to four Android upgrades from their launch versions.
Dividing each 128GB Very Good from-price by the months left (days from 5 October 2026 ÷ 30.44) gives a cost per month of remaining support:
| Model (Refurbished, 128GB Very Good) | End date used | Months left from 5 Oct 2026 | Cost per month of support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A53 5G, £93.99 | 31 March 2027 (estimate: five years from the March 2022 launch; Samsung UK publishes no date) | 5.8 | £93.99 ÷ 5.8 = £16.21 (estimate) |
| Galaxy A54 5G, £124.99 | 31 March 2028 (Samsung UK) | 17.8 | £124.99 ÷ 17.8 = £7.02 |
| Galaxy A55 5G, £179.99 | 31 March 2028 (Samsung UK; the earlier of Samsung's two dates) | 17.8 | £179.99 ÷ 17.8 = £10.11 |
On this measure the Galaxy A54 5G is the most efficient buy and the Galaxy A53 5G the least, despite its lower price. A phone keeps working after updates stop, but without Samsung's security patches, which matters most if you bank or shop on it.
Charging, SIMs and memory cards: details that decide some purchases
Charging doesn't separate them: all three are 25W phones, and GSMArena lists no wireless charging on any. The SIM tray does. All three accept a microSD card of up to 1TB, but in a hybrid slot that doubles as the second nano-SIM position. Samsung lists the Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A55 5G as dual-SIM with a “SIM 1 + Hybrid (SIM or microSD) or eSIM” layout, so eSIM gives them a second-number option that the Galaxy A53 5G lacks. Samsung doesn't state whether a card and two numbers work at the same time, so ask the team if you depend on that. The Galaxy A53 5G has no eSIM, so fitting a card leaves it with a single number.
Galaxy A53, A54 or A55 5G: which to buy for your situation
Common buyer situations matched to one configuration (refurbished, prices checked 5 October 2026):
| If you are… | Choose | Price | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Looking for the best all-round value | Galaxy A55 5G, 256GB, Very Good | £194.99 | Newest chip and metal frame for £10.00 over the 256GB Galaxy A54 5G |
| Spending least on a main phone to use until March 2028 | Galaxy A54 5G, 128GB, Very Good | £124.99 | Lowest cost per month of dated support |
| Buying a spare or stop-gap phone | Galaxy A53 5G, 128GB, Very Good | £93.99 | Under £100; short support matters less for occasional use |
| Wanting eSIM for a second number or a travel plan | Galaxy A54 5G or Galaxy A55 5G | From £124.99 | Both list eSIM; the Galaxy A53 5G has none |
| Buying a gift that should look unused | Galaxy A54 5G, 128GB, Like New | £139.99 | No visible marks on screen or body |
| Planning to keep the phone into 2029 or later | None of these three | n/a | Look at the refurbished Galaxy A56 5G |
Decision rules
- Choose the Galaxy A55 5G when you want 256GB (it's £10.00 more than the Galaxy A54 5G), a metal frame or the most performance headroom.
- Choose the Galaxy A54 5G instead when 128GB is enough and £55.00 matters more to you than the Galaxy A55 5G's frame and chip.
- Choose the Galaxy A53 5G only when the phone is a short-term or backup device and the lowest price outweighs support and eSIM.
Pick 128GB or 256GB and Very Good, Excellent or Like New on the product page. Prices were checked on 5 October 2026.
Alternatives: when to look beyond the A53, A54 and A55
The natural step up is the refurbished Galaxy A56 5G, the Galaxy A55 5G's 2025 successor. In Very Good condition it costs £243.99 for 128GB, £64.00 more than the Galaxy A55 5G (£243.99 − £179.99), and £286.99 for 256GB (£92.00 more). That buys 45W charging and Samsung's promise of six OS upgrades and six years of security updates, but no microSD slot. Samsung UK lists it as “valid until” 31 March 2032, while six years from its March 2025 launch would be about March 2031; plan around the earlier date. The listing also shows a Fair option; the grading page doesn't define it, so ask the team about its condition before ordering.
Spending more is justified only if you'll keep the phone well past March 2028. Our Galaxy A36 vs A56 comparison and the Galaxy A57 vs refurbished A56 comparison cover those newer pairs in detail.
The refurbished Galaxy A35 5G, the Galaxy A55 5G's 2024 sibling, is a cheaper sideways option if you want 256GB. The older Galaxy A52s 5G isn't listed, so the Galaxy A53 5G is the oldest 5-series option. For the wider range, see the refurbished Galaxy A-series overview.
Condition and ownership: what you get with an older 5-series phone
The same grade definitions and testing process apply to all three models. Grades describe cosmetic condition only, from Like New (no visible marks on the screen or body) to Very Good (visible marks on the body, screen in good shape). Every grade has at least 85% battery health at dispatch, so Like New buys appearance, not a stronger battery minimum.
The cost of a better grade grows with the model: Very Good to Like New at 128GB adds £11.00 on the Galaxy A53 5G, £15.00 on the Galaxy A54 5G and £22.00 on the Galaxy A55 5G. In a case, Very Good is usually the sensible choice. Keep two battery figures apart: 5,000mAh is Samsung's capacity for a new phone, while 85% is the minimum health of the individual refurbished battery at dispatch.
Samsung rated all three IP67 when new. Don't rely on that for a refurbished phone: seals age and can be disturbed during repair, and liquid damage isn't covered by the warranty.
The box holds the phone, a free USB-C cable, a free SIM ejector pin and protective packaging, but no plug or retail box. On arrival, check in Settings, then About phone, that the model number matches the listing, then confirm battery health and test your SIM and every camera.
Buying one of these phones from The Tech Gadgets
Each phone comes with a 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets, starting on delivery, covering faults that develop in normal use (not accidental or liquid damage); the details are in the returns and warranty policy. The warranty policy lists battery defects and reduced capacity as exclusions. A faulty battery within 30 days is still covered by your Consumer Rights Act right to reject.
If you pick the wrong model, you have change-of-mind returns within 30 days if the phone is unused and complete (you pay return postage), plus your 14-day right to cancel. Orders placed by 3pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day from Manchester, and standard delivery (1–3 working days) is free over £50, which covers every option here. All three are unlocked for EE, O2, Vodafone, Three and other UK networks; 5G, VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling depend on your network and plan. Like every Galaxy A-series phone we sell, all three are international stock rather than UK units: model codes may differ from UK phones', and Samsung UK may not carry out manufacturer warranty repairs on non-UK units, so The Tech Gadgets' 12-month warranty is your cover. If you rely on Wi-Fi Calling or 4G Calling (VoLTE) on a particular network, ask the team before ordering. To compare other models, browse the Samsung Galaxy phones in stock.
Samsung Galaxy A55 5G, Refurbished
- At least 85% battery health at dispatch on every listed grade
- 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets (excludes accidental and liquid damage)
- Same-day dispatch from Manchester on weekday orders placed by 3pm
Galaxy A53 vs A54 vs A55: buyer questions
Is the refurbished Galaxy A55 5G worth £10 more than the Galaxy A54 5G at 256GB?
Yes, for almost everyone. At 256GB in Very Good condition, the refurbished Galaxy A55 5G costs £194.99 and the refurbished Galaxy A54 5G costs £184.99 (checked 5 October 2026). The £10.00 buys a 4nm chip, a metal frame, a larger 6.6-inch screen with a published 1,000-nit rating, and the chance of an extra year of security support. The only reasons to choose the 256GB Galaxy A54 5G are its smaller size and lower weight (202g against 213g).
Is the Galaxy A53 5G enough, or is the Galaxy A54 5G worth £31 more?
For a main phone, the Galaxy A54 5G is worth the £31.00 (£124.99 − £93.99 at 128GB Very Good). The Galaxy A53 5G launched in March 2022 with up to five years of security updates promised, and Samsung UK publishes no end date. The Galaxy A54 5G is listed to 31 March 2028, giving 17.8 months of dated support against an estimated 5.8, and adds eSIM. At £93.99, a refurbished Galaxy A53 5G from The Tech Gadgets is enough only as a spare or stop-gap phone.
Should I buy a 256GB Galaxy A53 5G Like New or a 128GB Galaxy A54 5G Very Good?
The two are £1.00 apart: £125.99 for the Galaxy A53 5G and £124.99 for the Galaxy A54 5G. The Galaxy A53 5G gives you double the storage and an unmarked body. The Galaxy A54 5G gives you security updates listed to 31 March 2028 and eSIM, with visible marks on the body but a screen in good shape. Unless you need 256GB built in and only need the phone until 2027, choose the Galaxy A54 5G and add a microSD card for storage.
Does the Galaxy A55 5G charge faster than the Galaxy A54 5G?
No. Samsung lists 25W Super Fast Charging for the Galaxy A55 5G and the Galaxy A53 5G, and GSMArena lists 25W for the Galaxy A54 5G, so expect similar charging speeds from all three. Each refurbished phone comes with a USB-C cable but no plug. If faster charging is a priority, Samsung lists 45W for the refurbished Galaxy A56 5G.
Will a Galaxy A54 5G case fit a Galaxy A55 5G?
Don't count on it. Samsung lists the Galaxy A54 5G at 158.2 x 76.7 x 8.2mm and the Galaxy A55 5G at 161.1 x 77.4 x 8.2mm, so the Galaxy A55 5G is 2.9mm taller and 0.7mm wider. The Galaxy A53 5G differs again at 159.6 x 74.8 x 8.1mm. Buy a case made for the exact model, as none of the three refurbished phones comes with one.
Should I buy a 128GB Galaxy A55 5G or a 256GB Galaxy A54 5G?
Usually the 128GB Galaxy A55 5G. In Very Good condition it costs £179.99, which is £5.00 less than the 256GB Galaxy A54 5G at £184.99 (checked 5 October 2026), and it brings the newer 4nm chip and metal frame. Both take a microSD card, so storage can grow later. Choose the 256GB Galaxy A54 5G only if you want its shorter, lighter body and need 256GB built in.
Final verdict: the Galaxy A55 5G at 256GB, unless £55 matters more
The refurbished Galaxy A55 5G with 256GB in Very Good condition, at £194.99, is the best value of the three: £10.00 more than the equivalent Galaxy A54 5G buys a metal frame, a 4nm chip, a larger screen and the best chance of support beyond March 2028. If 128GB is enough and every pound counts, the Galaxy A54 5G at £124.99 is the smarter buy, with the lowest cost per month of dated support, eSIM and the shortest body. Buy the Galaxy A53 5G only as a spare or short-term phone, knowing its support is likely to end at about the end of March 2027.
Who should not buy any of these three
- Anyone planning to keep the phone past March 2028 and wanting dated security support throughout; the refurbished Galaxy A56 5G is the closest step up.
- Anyone who needs charging faster than 25W or wireless charging.
- Anyone who needs two numbers and a memory card on the Galaxy A53 5G, which has no eSIM.
