01Network and SIM
Use it on EE, O2, Vodafone, Three or any other UK network: it's unlocked. Apple lists sub-6 GHz 5G, the kind UK networks run, and Dual SIM with one nano-SIM and one eSIM.
02Display
Apple specifies a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR OLED at 2340 x 1080 and 476 ppi, the highest pixel density in the iPhone 12 range, with 1,200 nits HDR peak brightness and a Ceramic Shield front. Typing on it can feel fiddly with larger hands.
03Performance and storage
Inside is the same A14 Bionic as the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, so choosing the small iPhone costs you no speed. Everyday apps and video calls run smoothly. Storage can't be expanded; the iPhone 12 mini 128GB is a sensible middle choice, and it's a cheap iPhone 12 mini upgrade over 64GB.
04Cameras
Apple fits the same dual 12MP cameras as the standard iPhone 12: an f/1.6 Wide with optical image stabilisation and a 120° Ultra Wide, plus Night mode. Video records in 4K at up to 60 fps, and the front camera is 12MP.
05Battery and charging
Battery is the mini's main compromise. Apple rated it at up to 15 hours of video playback when new, two hours less than the iPhone 12, and a used battery has aged further. Every grade leaves us with at least 85% battery health at dispatch. It supports MagSafe and Qi wireless charging.
06Software updates
The iPhone 12 mini is on Apple's iOS 27 compatibility list (14 September 2026) and received iOS 27.0.1 on 28 September 2026. Security updates depend on Apple's policy; check the latest status before you buy. Apple Intelligence isn't supported.

Is a refurbished iPhone 12 mini worth buying in 2026?
Yes, if size matters most. Apple no longer sells an iPhone this small, and the 12 mini still runs iOS 27 with 5G and the A14 chip. Heavy users should expect to top up during the day, and it charges by Lightning rather than USB-C.
Who it's for
It's a good small iPhone for anyone who finds modern phones too big, for runners and small pockets, or for someone replacing an old iPhone SE. A second hand iPhone 12 mini bought privately rarely includes a warranty; ours has 12 months. If battery life matters more than size, look at the iPhone 12.

Yes, if you want a small iPhone that still runs the current iOS. The compromise is battery life: Apple rated it at 15 hours of video when new.
