Galaxy A08 and A07s Open Box: Worth Buying in the UK?

The Galaxy A08 and A07s aren't sold by Samsung in the UK. Here's what the international Open Box versions offer, what to check before ordering, and when a sealed Galaxy A07 5G is the better buy.

The Galaxy A08 and Galaxy A07s are real Samsung phones, launched in September 2026 for markets outside the UK, and The Tech Gadgets sells both as Open Box (Activated) international versions: opened and activated once, otherwise unused. The Galaxy A08 (64GB, £159.99, checked 5 October 2026) is worth a look if you want a 6,000mAh battery, an IP64 rating and Samsung security updates to September 2032 in a 4G phone. The Galaxy A07s (64GB, £137.99) is harder to recommend, because the sealed Galaxy A07 5G costs £4 less.

The trade-offs apply to both. Neither has 5G, Samsung doesn't list NFC for either, Samsung UK may not provide manufacturer warranty service for international units, and 4G Calling (VoLTE) support on international software can vary by network. If you rely on it, ask before ordering.

The Galaxy A08 is Open Box (Activated), international version; the Galaxy A07 5G is sealed new but not a Samsung UK-range model. The Galaxy A07s is covered below. Prices were checked on 5 October 2026 and can change.

Galaxy A08 or Galaxy A07s: the quick decision

  • Choose the Galaxy A08 when: you want the latest security date in this price band (30 September 2032), a 6,000mAh battery and IP64 dust protection, and you've confirmed 4G Calling on your network.
  • Choose the Galaxy A07s when: you want a 4G phone with updates to August 2032 for £22 less than the A08, and you prefer a slimmer, lighter body (7.6mm and 188g, against 8.0mm and 197g).
  • Consider an alternative when: you want 5G, a sealed box or the lowest price. The sealed Galaxy A07 5G (£133.99) and Galaxy A07 (£128.99) both undercut these two.
  • Check before buying: VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling on your network, whether you need a UK plug, and whether 64GB of storage is enough, since it's the only size listed.

Galaxy A08 vs Galaxy A07s: specifications and current listings

Samsung doesn't sell either phone in the UK, so these specifications come from its Malaysian, Singaporean and Levant websites and newsrooms. The Galaxy A07 (4G) column is there for reference, because the A07s is a variant of it.

What The Tech Gadgets lists today. Both are 64GB with 4GB of RAM, and condition is taken from the listing, not the web address.

Listing Condition Version Colours Price (checked 5 October 2026)
Galaxy A08 64GB Open Box (Activated) International version, not the UK model Dark Blue, Green, Silver £159.99
Galaxy A07s 64GB Open Box (Activated) International version, not the UK model Black, Green, Light Violet £137.99

What is the Galaxy A07s, and how is it different from the Galaxy A07?

The A07s is a regional 4G version of the Galaxy A07. Samsung swaps in a MediaTek Helio G99+ with LPDDR5 RAM and keeps the A07's 6.7-inch 90Hz screen, 50MP camera, 5,000mAh battery and slim body. It launched a year later, in September 2026, so its security updates run to 31 August 2032, twelve months beyond the A07's.

The “s” doesn't signal a premium model. Set Samsung's specifications side by side and the A07s shares the A07's display, cameras, battery, card slot and dimensions; the change is the chip and memory. Samsung sells it in markets such as Jordan, Thailand and parts of Africa, not in the UK or EU. The body is 4g heavier than the A07's, and everything you'd notice day to day, from the screen to the camera, is the same. Samsung's pages don't state its charging speed or One UI version; the listing says it runs Android 16.

There's one practical source of confusion. The web address of the Galaxy A07s Open Box listing contains “brand-new-uk”, but the listing itself describes the phone as Open Box (Activated), international version. That's the condition you receive, and it's how this guide treats it.

Galaxy A07s or a sealed Galaxy A07: is £9 worth it?

Only if you'll keep the phone into 2032. The Open Box A07s costs £9 more than the sealed 64GB Galaxy A07 (£137.99 minus £128.99) and gives you a slightly newer chip and twelve more months of security updates. The A07 gives you a sealed box, a 128GB option and the lower price. Neither is in Samsung's UK range, so the calling check applies to both.

That last point changes the comparison. The sealed Galaxy A07 listing is international stock too, and Samsung doesn't list the A07 on its UK website either. It's sold brand new and sealed, unlocked for UK networks, by The Tech Gadgets. So this isn't a UK model against an import. Both phones are international stock from outside Samsung's UK range; the real differences are sealed against activated, and a year of extra updates against £9.

Spreading each price over the security support it still has shows where the value sits, assuming you keep the phone until the updates stop.

Phone and condition (64GB unless stated) Price (checked 5 Oct 2026) Security updates until Months left from Oct 2026 Cost per year of remaining support
Galaxy A07s, Open Box (Activated), international £137.99 31 Aug 2032 71 £23.32
Galaxy A07 5G, brand new sealed £133.99 31 Jan 2032 64 £25.12
Galaxy A07 (4G), brand new sealed £128.99 31 Aug 2031 59 £26.24
Galaxy A08, Open Box (Activated), international £159.99 30 Sep 2032 72 £26.67
Galaxy A16 5G 128GB, Refurbished Very Good £128.99 31 Oct 2030 49 £31.59

How it's worked out: count the months from October 2026 through to the final month of updates, then divide the price by that number of years. For the A07s, £137.99 over 71 months comes to £23.32 a year.

On this measure the A07s is the best value on the page, which is a fair point in its favour. The catch is the phone in the second row: for £4 less than the A07s, the A07 5G arrives sealed, connects to 5G, carries 1,000mAh more battery and refreshes at 120Hz, and its updates stop only seven months sooner. For most buyers that's the better phone for less money.

Choose the A07s when you want a 4G phone you'll keep until 2032 and value its twelve extra months of updates over the A07; against the A07 5G it also keeps a dedicated memory card slot and a slimmer, lighter body (7.6mm and 188g against 8.2mm and 199g). Choose the sealed A07 instead when you'd rather have an unopened box, want 128GB (£141.99), or will replace the phone before 2031.

What does the Galaxy A08 add, and is it worth £22 more than the A07s?

For buyers who value battery and durability, yes. £159.99 minus £137.99 is £22. The A08 adds 1,000mAh of battery capacity, a tougher IP64 rating, a newer start on Android 17 with One UI 9 and one more month of security updates, to 30 September 2032. The chip, screen resolution, refresh rate, cameras and 64GB of storage match the A07s.

The battery is the headline. Samsung lists 6,000mAh for the A08 against 5,000mAh for the A07s, and both phones drive the same 90Hz screen, so the extra capacity isn't spent on a faster refresh rate. No battery tests were run for this guide, so read that as extra capacity on paper rather than a measured gain in hours. Samsung's Singapore newsroom gives the A08 25W wired charging.

IP64 means Samsung designed the A08 to be dust-tight and to resist splashes, one step up from the A07s's IP54 on dust. It isn't a waterproof rating, and for an Open Box phone it's a design specification rather than a guarantee for an individual unit. Liquid damage isn't covered by the warranty.

The software start matters more than it looks. The A08 begins on Android 17, two versions later than the A07, so with the same six-upgrade promise its final major update should land two versions further on. The A08 is also 9g heavier than the A07s and 0.4mm thicker.

So the A08 makes most sense for buyers who put battery life and the latest support date first, or who work somewhere dusty, bearing in mind IP64 is Samsung's design rating, not a guarantee for an individual Open Box unit. If a 5,000mAh battery has been enough on phones you've owned before, the A07s's lighter, slimmer body and the £22 saving are a fair trade for a 4G phone with updates to 2032.

Galaxy A08 vs Galaxy A07 5G: newer 4G phone or sealed 5G phone?

For most UK buyers, the sealed Galaxy A07 5G is better value. It costs £26 less (£159.99 minus £133.99), matches the A08's 6,000mAh battery, adds 5G and a 120Hz screen, and arrives sealed. The A08 earns its premium only if IP64 dust protection, a dedicated microSD slot and eight more months of security updates matter more to you than 5G.

Line the two up and the A07 5G wins on connectivity, screen smoothness and condition, while the A08 wins on update length (September 2032 against January 2032), dust rating and its memory card slot. The A07 5G's tray is hybrid, so a second SIM and a card can't be used together. Both have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage here, and neither lists NFC. The sealed Galaxy A07 5G is also international stock and not a Samsung UK-range model, so the calling and warranty points don't disappear by choosing it, and its box printing and model code may differ from UK units; it just comes in an unopened box.

Choose the A08 when you'll keep the phone to the end of its support, work somewhere dusty, and don't need 5G. Choose the A07 5G instead when you want 5G, a smoother screen or the lower price.

Galaxy A08 vs a refurbished Galaxy A16 5G

A refurbished Galaxy A16 5G in Very Good condition costs £128.99 for 128GB, which is £31 less than the A08 (£159.99 minus £128.99). Unlike the A08, it's a model Samsung sells in the UK (it has a samsung.com/uk product page), though the refurbished units are international stock too. It has a full-HD Super AMOLED screen, 5G, NFC for contactless payments, a 5MP ultra-wide camera and twice the storage.

The A08 answers with time and condition. Its security updates run 23 months longer (to September 2032 rather than Samsung UK's 31 October 2030), it's unused rather than second hand, and its battery hasn't been through a previous owner; the A16 5G's refurbished grades promise at least 85% battery health at dispatch. The A08 also keeps a headphone jack, which the A16 5G lacks. The A16 5G listing also shows a Fair option from £119.99; the grading page doesn't define Fair, so ask the team about its condition before choosing it.

That splits buyers cleanly: screen quality, tap-to-pay and a model sold by Samsung UK point to the A16 5G, while the longest update runway and an unused phone point to the A08. You can compare both alongside the rest of the Samsung Galaxy phones in stock.

View Galaxy A07s Open Box OptionsCompare the Sealed Galaxy A07

The Galaxy A07s is Open Box (Activated), international version. The Galaxy A07 is sealed new and sold unlocked for UK networks, but it isn't a Samsung UK-range model. Prices were checked on 5 October 2026 and can change.

4G only: what the network details mean in the UK

The Galaxy A08 international version listing and the A07s listing both say the phones are unlocked and work on EE, O2, Vodafone and Three on 4G, supporting the main UK 4G bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 38 and 40. They don't support band 32, which the listings describe as adding extra download capacity on some networks rather than basic coverage. Neither phone has 5G, and no SIM or software update can add it.

Calls are the bigger question. UK networks have switched off 3G, so voice calls rely on 4G Calling (VoLTE). The listings say VoLTE support on international software can vary by network, and Wi-Fi Calling likewise depends on the network and the phone's software. A test call on one network or in one place isn't proof it will work on your network at home, which is why the checklist below includes a test call and a Wi-Fi Calling check.

The fix is simple: ask the Manchester team about your network before ordering, naming the network and whether you need Wi-Fi Calling. For background on unlocked handsets and SIM-only plans, our guide to unlocked and SIM-free phones in the UK covers the basics.

International Open Box checklist for the Galaxy A08 and A07s

These checks are specific to these two phones. The general pros and cons of buying international stock are covered in our guide to international stock compared with refurbished phones.

Before you order

  1. Ask whether VoLTE and, if you use it, Wi-Fi Calling work on your network with this model.
  2. Check you have a USB-C charger and UK plug. The box contents are those Samsung supplies for its market and may not include a UK mains plug.
  3. Decide whether 64GB is enough. It's the only storage listed for both, and a microSD card holds photos and media but not every app.

When it arrives

  1. Look up the model number under About phone. It should begin SM-A085 on the A08 or SM-A077 on the A07s; regional letters after that can vary, so only the first part needs to match.
  2. Check the phone looks unused and lets you set it up with your own Google and Samsung accounts. If it asks for someone else's account, stop and contact the team.
  3. Insert your SIM, make a call, send a text and confirm mobile data works on 4G.
  4. If you use Wi-Fi Calling, switch it on and test it at home.
  5. Run a software update and note the security patch date.
  6. Keep the box and everything in it until you're sure, because change-of-mind returns need the phone complete.

What Open Box (Activated), international version means for these two phones

According to the listings, each phone is new stock whose box has been opened and which has been switched on and activated once. It hasn't been used as someone's phone, but because it has been activated The Tech Gadgets doesn't sell it as sealed brand new. It isn't refurbished either, so the refurbished grades and their 85% battery-health minimum don't apply, and the listings don't publish a battery figure for Open Box stock. Check battery status in the phone's settings when you set it up.

“International version” means the model Samsung makes for markets outside the UK. The listings don't say which market the units come from, and Samsung sells the A08 in places as different as Thailand, India and Serbia. From October 2026, the A08 has 72 months of Samsung security support left and the A07s has 71, the longest of any phone in this guide.

Buying the Galaxy A08 or A07s from The Tech Gadgets

Both listings include a 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets, starting on delivery and covering faults that develop in normal use, not accidental or liquid damage. For an international unit this is the warranty to rely on, because Samsung UK may not provide manufacturer warranty service. The terms sit in the returns and warranty policy, and your Consumer Rights Act rights apply on top.

The warranty policy page says the team inspects and attempts a repair first, offering a replacement if repair isn't possible. That doesn't replace your legal rights: within 30 days of delivery you can reject a faulty phone for a full refund, and from 30 days to six months repair or replacement comes first under the Consumer Rights Act. The same page lists battery defects and reduced capacity as exclusions, so check battery behaviour early; a battery fault in those first 30 days falls under the same right to reject.

You can cancel within 14 days of delivery, and change-of-mind returns are accepted within 30 days if the phone is unused and complete, with return postage paid by you. Orders placed by 3pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day from Manchester; standard delivery then takes 1–3 working days and is free on orders of £50 or more.

Samsung Galaxy A08, Open Box (Activated), International Version

£159.99 for 64GB with 4GB RAM (price checked 5 October 2026). Colours: Dark Blue, Green, Silver. 4G only; not the UK model.

  • 6,000mAh battery, IP64 and Samsung security updates to 30 September 2032 (Samsung specification)
  • 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets (excludes accidental and liquid damage)
  • Ask about 4G Calling on your network before ordering

Who should not buy the Galaxy A08 or A07s

  • Anyone who needs 5G now or expects to want it before 2032.
  • Anyone who pays by phone. Samsung doesn't list NFC for either model.
  • Buyers who want a sealed box, a Samsung UK-range model or Samsung UK warranty service.
  • People who depend on Wi-Fi Calling and can't confirm it works on their network before buying.
  • Heavy app users who need more than 64GB of built-in storage.

Galaxy A08 and A07s: buyer questions

Is the Samsung Galaxy A08 sold in the UK?

Not by Samsung. The Galaxy A08 launched in September 2026 in markets including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, India, the Gulf, Serbia and Russia, and it isn't on Samsung's UK website. The Tech Gadgets sells the international version as Open Box (Activated), unlocked, at £159.99 for 64GB (checked 5 October 2026), with its own 12-month warranty because Samsung UK may not service international units.

Does the Galaxy A08 have 5G?

No. Samsung lists it as “Galaxy A08 LTE”, and the listing confirms 4G only. It supports the main UK 4G bands used by EE, O2, Vodafone and Three (1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 38 and 40), but not band 32. If you want 5G at a similar price, the sealed Galaxy A07 5G costs £133.99 and also has a 6,000mAh battery.

Will 4G Calling work on my network?

It should be checked rather than assumed. With 3G switched off in the UK, calls use 4G Calling (VoLTE), and support on international software can vary by network. Contact The Tech Gadgets before ordering, name your network and say whether you also need Wi-Fi Calling. Then test calls in the first few days, while your 14-day right to cancel still applies.

Why does the Galaxy A07s web address say “brand new”?

The listing's handle contains “brand-new-uk”, but its title and description say Open Box (Activated), international version. The listing description is what counts: the phone has been activated once, isn't sold as sealed, and isn't the UK model. If you want a sealed A07-family phone, the Galaxy A07 (£128.99) and Galaxy A07 5G (£133.99) are listed as brand new and sealed (both sold unlocked for UK networks, though Samsung doesn't list either on its UK website).

How long will the Galaxy A08 get updates?

Samsung promises up to six Android upgrades and up to six years of security updates, counted from the first global launch. Its Malaysian and Levant specifications give a “valid until” date of 30 September 2032, about 72 months from October 2026. The Galaxy A07s runs to 31 August 2032. Both outlast the Galaxy A07 (August 2031) and A07 5G (January 2032).

Is the Galaxy A08 waterproof?

No. Samsung rates it IP64, which means dust-tight and resistant to splashes, not submersion. For an Open Box phone, treat that as Samsung's design specification rather than a guarantee for an individual unit. Liquid damage isn't covered by the 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets, so treat it like any phone that shouldn't get wet.

Does the Galaxy A08 come with a UK charger?

Possibly not. The listing says the box contents are those Samsung supplies for that market and may not include a UK mains plug. Samsung lists a USB Type-C port and 25W wired charging for the A08, so a USB-C charger you already own will work, though charging speed depends on the charger. Ask the team if you need to know exactly what's in the box.

Verdict: the A08 for the longest support, the A07s only in a narrow case

The Galaxy A08 is the stronger of these two international Open Box phones. For £159.99 it brings a 6,000mAh battery, IP64, Android 17 and security updates to September 2032, the latest date of any phone in this guide. Buy it if you want a 4G phone to keep for six years, value dust protection and a dedicated memory card slot (which the A07 5G lacks), and have confirmed 4G Calling on your network.

The Galaxy A07s offers the lowest cost per year of support here, but it's hard to choose over the sealed Galaxy A07 5G, which undercuts it by £4 while bringing 5G and the larger battery. Pick the A07s only if you specifically want a slim 4G phone with updates to 2032. If you want 5G or a sealed box, the A07 5G is the obvious step; if tap-to-pay or a model Samsung sells in the UK matters, a refurbished Galaxy A16 5G is the better fit.
