Galaxy A26 vs A27: Refurbished A26 or Open Box A27?

A refurbished Galaxy A26 5G matches the newer A27 on screen, battery and charging and has the better water rating, for £68 less. The Open Box A27 buys 16 more months of security updates. Both are international stock.

For most UK buyers, a refurbished Samsung Galaxy A26 5G in Very Good condition is better value than an Open Box Galaxy A27 5G. At £165.99 for 128GB against £233.99 for the A27 (both checked 5 October 2026), the A26 matches the newer phone on screen, battery capacity and charging speed. It suits anyone who will replace their phone within about four years.

The A27 earns its £68.00 premium in one place: time. Samsung UK lists its security updates to 31 July 2032, 16.0 months beyond the A26's 31 March 2031, and it arrives activated once rather than used. Origin doesn't separate them: both phones are international stock, so Samsung UK may not repair either under manufacturer warranty, and The Tech Gadgets' own 12-month warranty is the cover.

Galaxy A26 or A27? The quick decision

Best for

  • Galaxy A26 5G, Refurbished: anyone who wants a 120Hz Samsung with updates to March 2031 for under £200, and doesn't mind a graded, previously used phone.
  • Galaxy A27 5G, Open Box (Activated), international stock: buyers who will keep one phone into 2032 and want a handset set up only once.

Consider an alternative when

  • You need eSIM or charging faster than 25W. A refurbished Galaxy A36 5G lists both, and costs £211.99 in Very Good condition with 128GB.
  • You're about to buy a 256GB A27. The 256GB White Galaxy A37 5G listing is only £10.00 more, and is also Open Box international stock.

Check before buying

  • RAM on the 128GB versions of both phones isn't confirmed on the listings, so ask if it matters to you.
  • The A26's Fair grade has no published definition.
  • Samsung UK doesn't list eSIM for either phone.

Galaxy A26 5G vs Galaxy A27 5G: the buying facts

The first table uses Samsung's published specifications for the UK models. The second shows what The Tech Gadgets lists today. A specification describes the phone when new, not the condition of an individual unit.

What The Tech Gadgets lists (from-prices checked 5 October 2026):

Model and condition 128GB 256GB
Galaxy A26 5G, Refurbished, Fair £154.99 £181.99
Galaxy A26 5G, Refurbished, Very Good £165.99 £194.99
Galaxy A26 5G, Refurbished, Excellent £180.00 £211.99

Galaxy A27 5G, Open Box (Activated), international stock £233.99 (Black, Blue or Pink) £263.99 (Blue or Pink); £328.99 (Black)

The A26 comes in Black, White, Mint and Peach Pink on one refurbished Galaxy A26 5G listing, where you pick grade and storage. The A27 is split into separate listings by storage and colour, so its price depends on which one you open. The Galaxy A27 5G buying guide covers the A27's full feature set on its own.

What does the Galaxy A27 5G's extra £68 actually buy?

A 128GB Galaxy A27 5G Open Box costs £68.00 more than a 128GB Galaxy A26 5G in Very Good condition (£233.99 − £165.99). That buys a newer Snapdragon chip, Android 16 at launch, 16.0 more months of security updates and a phone set up once rather than used. It doesn't buy a better screen, faster charging or a higher water-resistance rating.

Side by side, the A27 gives ground on water resistance (IP67 down to IP64), the ultra-wide camera (8MP down to 5MP) and the selfie camera (13MP down to 12MP). Screen, battery capacity, charging wattage and the microSD slot are level. The case for the A27 rests on its chip, its software runway and its condition.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or Exynos 1380: is the A27 faster?

Samsung hasn't published a comparison, and The Tech Gadgets hasn't benchmarked either phone, so there's no measured answer. What's on record is that Samsung names the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 for the Galaxy A27 5G, the same chip it chose for last year's higher-tier Galaxy A36 5G. The Galaxy A26 5G's Exynos 1380 is named by GSMArena, not by Samsung.

Nothing in either spec sheet points to a gap you'd notice in messaging, browsing, streaming or maps. Any extra headroom would matter most towards the end of a six-year update window, so if you replace phones every two or three years, the chip is unlikely to decide anything.

RAM is the other variable. Samsung UK pairs 256GB with 8GB on the A26, and the A27 256GB listings state 8GB. The 128GB versions are less clear-cut:

  • the A26 listing says RAM on 128GB depends on the unit supplied (Samsung UK sold the A26 to consumers as an 8GB/256GB model, with 128GB only in its Enterprise Edition)
  • the A27 128GB listings don't state RAM; Samsung UK's 128GB A27 has 6GB, and 8GB versions exist in other markets

If you keep a lot of apps open at once, the 256GB version of either phone is the one with a stated 8GB.

IP67 vs IP64: which phone copes better with water?

On paper the older Galaxy A26 5G is better protected. Samsung rates it IP67, tested for submersion in up to 1 metre of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. The Galaxy A27 5G is IP64, which Samsung UK describes as protection from dirt and splashes. Neither rating is a promise for a phone that has been used, opened or repaired.

The ratings share the dust digit. The water digit is the difference, and Samsung describes the A27's protection in terms of splashes, not immersion.

Samsung itself says water and dust resistance isn't permanent and can diminish with normal wear. A refurbished A26's seals may have aged or been disturbed by repair. An Open Box A27 has only been set up once, but the warranty excludes liquid damage on either phone, so treat both ratings as design specifications. On paper the A26 has the higher rating, but on a refurbished phone that's a design figure, not a promise.

Screen, cameras and charging: where the two phones are level

The Galaxy A26 5G and Galaxy A27 5G share a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel at up to 120Hz, with Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back. Samsung publishes no peak-brightness figure for either, so nothing separates the screens on paper.

Both have a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), which steadies low-light shots and video, plus a 2MP macro. The ultra-wide is where they part: 8MP on the A26, 5MP on the A27. That matters for landscapes and group photos you'd like to crop; if most of your photos come from the main camera, you're unlikely to notice.

Charging is a draw at 25W, and Samsung states the A27 reaches 45% in 30 minutes. Neither phone arrives with a mains plug, so budget for a USB-C adapter if you don't have one.

Battery capacity is identical at 5,000mAh, Samsung's figure for a new phone. A refurbished A26's battery health at dispatch is a separate number, covered in the condition section.

How many years of updates does each pound buy?

From 5 October 2026 to the end dates on Samsung UK's pages, the Galaxy A26 5G has 53.8 months (4.5 years) of security updates left and the Galaxy A27 5G 69.8 months (5.8 years). Per remaining year, a Very Good A26 128GB costs £36.89 (£165.99 ÷ 4.5) and an A27 128GB £40.34 (£233.99 ÷ 5.8), so the gap is smaller than the price tags suggest.

The A26's updates run to 31 March 2031 (1,638 days) and the A27's to 31 July 2032 (2,126 days), at 30.44 days a month. Each figure below is the from-price divided by the years left (prices checked 5 October 2026):

Model, condition and storage Price Years left Per year
Galaxy A26 5G, Refurbished Very Good, 128GB £165.99 4.5 £36.89
Galaxy A26 5G, Refurbished Very Good, 256GB £194.99 4.5 £43.33
Galaxy A26 5G, Refurbished Like New, 128GB £197.99 4.5 £44.00
Galaxy A27 5G, Open Box, 128GB £233.99 5.8 £40.34
Galaxy A27 5G, Open Box, 256GB Blue or Pink £263.99 5.8 £45.52
Galaxy A27 5G, Open Box, 256GB Black £328.99 5.8 £56.72

The A27's extra updates (488 days, 16.0 months, or 1.3 years) cost £68.00 over a Very Good A26: £68.00 ÷ 1.3 = £52.31 for each additional year. That's more than either phone costs per year overall, so you pay a premium for the tail end of the A27's support. It's only worth it if you'll still be using the phone after March 2031.

A Like New A26 128GB (£44.00 a year) costs more per remaining year than an A27 128GB (£40.34). If you were going to pay for the top cosmetic grade anyway, the A27 is the better use of the money. The Fair grade is left out of the table: a Fair option is listed; the grading page doesn't define it, so ask the team about its condition before ordering.

Android upgrades tell a similar story. Six are promised for each phone, counted from Android 15 on the A26 and Android 16 on the A27. For both, Samsung's commitment lines up with the date on its UK page, so there's no conflict to allow for.

Cost per year measures software support, not how long the hardware lasts. Batteries age whatever the update date says.

128GB or 256GB: the cheapest route to more storage

Both the Galaxy A26 5G and Galaxy A27 5G take a microSD card of up to 2TB, but it shares the second SIM slot. With no eSIM listed in the UK, adding a card means running one SIM.

Storage options compared with a 128GB A27 Open Box (prices checked 5 October 2026):

Option Price Difference vs A27 128GB
Galaxy A26 5G, Refurbished Very Good, 256GB £194.99 £39.00 less
Galaxy A27 5G, Open Box, 128GB £233.99 None
Galaxy A27 5G, Open Box, 256GB Blue or Pink £263.99 £30.00 more
Galaxy A27 5G, Open Box, 256GB Black £328.99 £95.00 more

The standout is the 256GB A26 in Very Good condition. It doubles the built-in storage of a 128GB A27, keeps both SIM slots free, and still costs £39.00 less. A 128GB A26 plus a card is cheaper again. A card suits photos, music and downloads; check how much internal space your apps need first.

On the A27 side, the 256GB Blue and Pink listings add 128GB for £30.00. The Black 256GB listing costs £65.00 more for the same storage, a gap the Galaxy A27 5G price breakdown looks at listing by listing.

Decision rules for the A26 and A27

Choose the Galaxy A26 5G (Refurbished) when:

  • your budget stops below £200, or you'd rather spend £39.00 less and get 256GB than buy a newer 128GB model
  • you expect to replace the phone before spring 2031
  • the 8MP ultra-wide matters to you (the A26's IP67 is the higher design rating, but it isn't guaranteed on a refurbished phone)
  • you want a published battery-health minimum, which the Like New, Excellent and Very Good grades have and the Open Box listings don't state

Choose the Galaxy A27 5G (Open Box) instead when:

  • you keep phones until the security updates stop, and 2032 is your horizon
  • you'd rather have a phone activated once, in its Samsung retail box, than a graded used one

The A26 grade, storage and colour are chosen on its product page. The A27 button opens the 128GB Black listing; pick the Open Box option there (the listing also shows a Brand New option at £256.99, and the A26 listing one at £221.99, checked 5 October 2026). Prices can change.

Alternatives worth pricing up first

Galaxy A36 5G, Refurbished (£211.99 for 128GB in Very Good condition). It costs £22.00 less than the 128GB A27 Open Box and uses the same Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip. Samsung UK lists 45W charging, eSIM and IP67, with security updates to 31 March 2031, the same as the A26. It has no microSD slot.

If the chip is what drew you to the A27, the A36 gets you it for less. The refurbished Galaxy A26 vs A36 comparison covers that step in detail.

Galaxy A37 5G, Open Box (Activated), international stock (from £273.48 for 128GB). That's £39.49 more than the 128GB A27. Samsung rates it IP68 and lists eSIM, 45W charging and an 8MP ultra-wide, with updates to 31 March 2032. Against it: no microSD, and its updates end 4.0 months before the A27's (31 March against 31 July 2032).

The A37 is most compelling at 256GB. The 256GB White A37 listing is £273.99, just £10.00 more than a 256GB Blue or Pink A27. For £10.00 you trade the card slot and 4.0 months of updates for IP68, eSIM and faster charging. The other 256GB A37 listings cost more.

Like the A27, the A37 listings are international stock (UAE or Europe): Samsung UK may not provide manufacturer warranty service, so The Tech Gadgets' 12-month warranty applies. See how the A27 compares with the A37 and A57, or browse the Open Box Galaxy A27, A37 and A57 listings together.

Spending more isn't justified if your phone is mostly for messaging, calls, social apps and streaming. A Very Good A26 has the same screen size, refresh rate and battery capacity as a 128GB Open Box A37 costing £107.49 more.

Who should not buy the A26 or the A27

  • Anyone who needs eSIM. Samsung UK lists physical SIMs only for both.
  • Anyone who wants fast charging. Both are 25W phones; the refurbished A36 and the Open Box A37 support 45W with a compatible charger.
  • Anyone who expects Samsung UK to handle repairs. Both are international stock, so Samsung UK may not provide manufacturer warranty service for either. The Tech Gadgets' own warranty covers both phones instead.
  • Anyone who needs two SIMs and a memory card at once. The hybrid slot means it's one or the other.

Graded refurbished or activated-once Open Box: what you're really choosing

A refurbished Galaxy A26 5G and an Open Box Galaxy A27 5G carry different uncertainties. The A26 has been used, and its grade tells you roughly how it looks. The A27 has barely been used, but its listings give no battery-health figure.

The refurbished Galaxy A26 5G

Each refurbished A26 has had a previous owner. The Tech Gadgets tests, cleans and factory resets it in Manchester and removes the old owner's accounts. The grade describes looks only:

  • Like New: no visible marks on the screen or body
  • Excellent: light signs of use, hard to spot at arm's length
  • Very Good: visible marks on the body, with the screen in good shape

All three grades ship with at least 85% battery health, which describes your unit's battery, not Samsung's 5,000mAh capacity. A Fair option is listed; the grading page doesn't define it, so ask the team about its condition before ordering. The full standards explain how The Tech Gadgets tests and grades refurbished phones.

A refurbished A26 arrives with a free USB-C charging cable, a SIM ejector pin and protective packaging. There's no mains plug and no retail box.

The Open Box Galaxy A27 5G

The A27 has been taken out of its box, switched on and activated once, then factory reset, checked and signed out of all accounts. It isn't sealed and isn't sold as brand new. It comes in its Samsung retail box with a USB-C cable and SIM tool, and no plug. The listings don't publish a battery-health figure.

The listings describe it as international stock from the UAE or Europe, and the refurbished A26 is international stock too. On either phone the model code (and, on the A27, the box printing) can differ from UK stock, and Samsung UK may not carry out manufacturer warranty repairs, so the retailer's 12-month warranty is your route if something goes wrong. VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling depend on your network, plan and the phone's software, so if you rely on either on a particular network, ask the team before ordering. The guide to international stock explains more.

Checks to do on arrival (either phone)

  1. Check the model code under Settings › About phone matches the listing.
  2. Confirm no previous Google or Samsung account is signed in.
  3. Check the battery status in Samsung's built-in diagnostics.
  4. Make a call and test mobile data on your SIM, plus Wi-Fi Calling if you use it.
  5. Test the cameras, speakers and charging.

Don't test the water resistance. On batteries, the warranty policy lists battery defects and reduced capacity as exclusions. Check battery health when the phone arrives. A faulty battery within 30 days is still covered by your Consumer Rights Act right to reject.

Buying either phone from The Tech Gadgets

Both phones come with a 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets, starting on delivery, covering faults that develop in normal use (not accidental or liquid damage). Because both phones are international stock, that warranty is the cover you'll rely on instead of Samsung UK.

You get change-of-mind returns within 30 days if the phone is unused and complete (you pay return postage), plus your 14-day right to cancel. Keep the A27's box and accessories together until you're sure. Full terms are in the returns and warranty policy.

Orders placed by 3pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day from Manchester. That's dispatch, not delivery: standard delivery then takes 1–3 working days and is free on orders of £50 or more.

Email info@thetechgadgets.co.uk before ordering if you want to confirm the RAM in a 128GB unit, ask about the Fair grade or check network features on international stock.

Samsung Galaxy A27 5G 256GB, Open Box (Activated), international stock

£263.99 for 256GB with 8GB RAM in Blue (price checked 5 October 2026). Pink is the same price on its own listing; Black is £328.99.

  • Set up and activated once, factory reset, checked and signed out of all accounts
  • 12-month warranty from The Tech Gadgets (excludes accidental and liquid damage)
  • Same-day dispatch from Manchester on weekday orders placed by 3pm

Galaxy A26 vs A27: buyer questions

Does the Galaxy A27 5G have eSIM in the UK?

Not according to Samsung UK. Its A27 specification lists a nano-SIM plus a hybrid slot for a second nano-SIM or a microSD card, with no eSIM. GSMArena lists an eSIM variant for some markets, which is where the confusion comes from. Treat the A27, like the A26, as physical-SIM only. If eSIM matters, the refurbished Galaxy A36 5G and the Open Box Galaxy A37 5G both list it on their UK specifications.

Is an Open Box A27 the same as a brand-new one?

No. An Open Box (Activated) A27 has been switched on and set up once, then factory reset and checked, so it isn't sealed. It comes in its Samsung box with a cable and SIM tool, and it's international stock. The listings describe it as cosmetically as-new, but it's sold under a different condition, and they don't publish a battery-health figure.

Why does the older A26 have a better water rating than the newer A27?

Samsung gives the 2025 Galaxy A26 5G IP67 and the 2026 Galaxy A27 5G IP64, and the Samsung pages checked for this guide don't say why. Samsung describes IP64 as protection from dirt and splashes; IP67 was tested for submersion in up to 1 metre of fresh water for 30 minutes. For a used or Open Box phone, neither rating is guaranteed, and liquid damage isn't covered by the warranty either way.

Will an international A27 work properly on my UK network?

It's unlocked and works on UK networks, including EE, O2, Vodafone and Three, with 5G where your plan and area support it. The features to check are VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling, which on international units depend on the network, the plan and the phone's software. If you rely on Wi-Fi Calling at home, ask The Tech Gadgets before ordering, and test it within your 14-day cancellation window.

Is the A26's Fair grade worth saving £11.00?

A Fair 128GB A26 costs £154.99, £11.00 less than Very Good. Nobody can tell you exactly what that saving buys: the grading page defines only Like New, Excellent and Very Good, and the 85% battery minimum is stated for those three. A Fair option is listed; the grading page doesn't define it, so ask the team about its condition before ordering. For £11.00, Very Good is the safer buy.

Which colours are Samsung UK-range on each phone?

Samsung UK lists the Galaxy A26 5G in Black, White and Mint. The listing's fourth colour, Peach Pink, was sold in other markets. For the Galaxy A27 5G, Samsung UK lists Black, Blue and Light Pink (the listings call it Pink), while Light Green is an other-market colour not offered here. Whichever colour you choose, both phones are international stock. The A26 storage and colour guide covers this further.

Verdict: the A26 for value, the A27 for the long haul

The refurbished Galaxy A26 5G is the better buy for most people. In Very Good condition at £165.99 for 128GB or £194.99 for 256GB, it matches the A27 on screen, battery capacity and charging speed, has the higher-resolution ultra-wide camera on paper, and gets security updates to March 2031. Pick it if you won't keep a phone much beyond four years.

The Open Box Galaxy A27 5G is the right choice when you want security updates into 2032 for under £240. At £233.99 for 128GB it buys a newer chip, a later Android starting point and updates to July 2032, with no previous owner beyond one activation. Like the A26, it's international stock, so plan on The Tech Gadgets' warranty rather than Samsung UK's.

Need eSIM or 45W charging? The refurbished Galaxy A36 5G covers both at £211.99 in Very Good condition with 128GB, £22.00 less than the A27. Before spending £263.99 on a 256GB A27, look at the £273.99 White 256GB Galaxy A37 5G, which is also international Open Box stock covered by the retailer's warranty rather than Samsung UK's.
